[After a massive sellout of its signature Marvel x Five Four Club collection this spring, Five Four Club head Andres Izquieta talks to SOHH about expanding the brand.]

We’ve been lucky that in the past year and a half, we’ve grown by about 15x, so we’re pretty fortunate and pretty lucky. The future is very promising.

We obviously are working pretty diligently to fix whatever wasn’t perfect about our service to always make it better. We’re just continuously getting feedback from all of our members because that’s who is number one to us and we’re trying to figure out how to make the experience better and more unique.

Our concept is pretty unique and it’s never been done and there’s no road map. I think that’s what makes it very exciting for [Five Four employees] because we’re all learning as we go.

We make mistakes everyday but luckily we have more successes than failures. It’s kind of like a basketball team. It’s kind of like any pro sports team, actually. If you win like 70 to 80 percent of your games, I think you’re a contender to win the championship.

That’s kind of my same theory. As long as we’re winning 70 to 80 percent of the time, then you’re going to win big. That’s my analogy.

It’s like the ’96 Bulls. [Michael] Jordan came back in ’95 wearing the 4-5 and then ’96 was their record year. They went 72-10, obviously from a percentage standpoint, that’s like an 88 win percentage?

I think the way that we look at everything, as long as we win more than we lose, especially in that percentile, then we’re doing something right and, for us, everyday is kind of like a new deal and the Five Four concept is a journey for our members, is a journey for ourselves internally, and I think what’s exciting is that we’re always learning everyday.

I think that’s what brings everybody in is that we’re all just one big team and we’re all trying to navigate this ship all together.

There’s no road map. There’s no road. You’re literally taking the road less traveled because there’s no f*cking road.

If we had a blueprint to follow, maybe that would have been great but also at the same time, I think what’s really good is that we’re able to trail blaze and learn from your mistakes and then improve and make things twice as better the next go-around.

We’re lucky we’re in a business where we get to ship product every single month so there’s never a slow month. Actually, every month has been bigger than the previous month. So we’re learning month-to-month how to make things better.

Obviously there are short-term fixes and long-term fixes, and as long as we kind of have the same vision, that we’re here to make sure our members are getting the best service possible, then as long as that kind of feeling stays around, then we’ll always be working as a team and doing the best job possible.
