The trend of hip-hop artists landing their own television shows continues this week with network FX green lighting a new series from hip-hop artist Donald Glover.

According to reports, Glover will executive produce his new “Atlanta” show which is set to air in 2016.

FX has given a series order to a comedy created by and starring “Community” alum Donald Glover. “Atlanta” revolves around two cousins on their way up in Atlanta’s rap music scene. The half-hour series has a 10-episode order from FX for premiere next year. Glover is exec producing with Paul Simms for FX Prods. and Dianne McGunigle of MGMT Entertainment. (Variety)

Music mogul Diddy will executive produce an upcoming ABC series called “The Hustle.”

ABC is developing The Hustle (working title), a single-camera comedy executive produced by Sean Combs and directed by Jeremy Garelick (The Wedding Ringer). At ABC, Combs previously executive produced and starred in the TV movie A Raisin in the Sun. He recently was a co-executive producer on the feature Dope. (Deadline)

Reports this week revealed hip-hop star Ludacris landed his own executive role for a show called “The Down Beat.”

The scribe, who last season saw medical drama LFE go to pilot, has sold a pair of dramas to the network — including a Ryan Seacrest and Chris “Ludacris” Bridges produced marching band entry. The Down Beat, from CBS Television Studios and Ryan Seacrest Productions, is described as an inspiring story of a former business mogul looking for personal retribution, who is determined to take down two warring gangs in the mean streets of Atlanta by offering possible teen recruits an unlikely refuge: a high school marching band. Young Money’s Nicki Minaj recently snatched up an executive producer position for an upcoming television show.

Nicki Minaj is set to executive produce and appear in a scripted comedy series for ABC Family based on the rap star’s life growing up in Queens, New York. The project, from Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, will film a pilot episode in Minaj’s hometown this winter, with the intention to continue to series. (Deadline)
