Chicago rapper Yung Berg recently revealed having an opportunity to appear on Ray J's "I Hit It First" anthem earlier this year and what ultimately made him fall back from teaming back up with the crooner.
Despite having the upmost respect for Ray and working together on past collaborations, Berg said he could not connect with the song’s content.
“As far as his new single, he actually sent me the record four months before the song came out and they wanted me to get on the song but through the content…that wasn’t my story. I told him respectfully that I didn’t want to do the record but we could do anything else and I just wanted to stay away from that because it wasn’t my truth.” (Page-31)
Last month, Ray relied on rappers like Uncle Murda and Clyde Carson to remix the infectious jam.

The track premiered on StreetSweeper Radio earlier this week. The crew isn’t shy about the substance behind “I Hit It First.”. “Ray J a fool for this, Kanye ain’t gonna be cool with this one…” Uncle Murda raps as the remix opens. “Everybody know this record about Kim K. Ray J invaded BET’s “106 & Park” show around mid-May and unveiled the music video’s Kim Kardashian lookalike.
Ray J enlisted a Kim Kardashian look-alike for his controversial video for “I Hit It First.” During his appearance on “106 & Park” on Wednesday, the R&B singer brought his leading lady Luba with him. The audience chanted, “Bring her out! Bring her out!” before she walked on set. Bow Wow gave the model a hug, but when he went to ask Ray J about her striking similarity to his ex, Ray cut him off. He wouldn’t say Kim’s name when asked who the song is about. “The song is about something I did. I try not to go so hard with the record ’cause it’s self-explanatory,” said Ray J. “There’s other relationships that I’ve been in too, just not as popular as others that I’ve dealt with.” (Rap-Up)
In April, Ray said he had no concerns about possible backlash from Kim K and boyfriend Kanye West.
“I’m not thinking about that,” Ray said in an interview when asked for his take on Kanye not responding back to him. “We didn’t do this record to get a response from nobody. Like, we did this record for people to go to iTunes, pick the record up, when you hear it in the club, you go crazy. If you want to pop it on your iTunes that’s in your phone and have a crazy conversation about what it is, that’s what we did it for. We run an independent company and we having fun. … The thing about it is I’m not saying anything to nobody. The record speaks for itself. The record is so over-the-top that for us to go into the interviews and go crazy over some sh*t, it’s too much. It’s distasteful.” (“Street Sweepers Radio”)
