Rapper Gunna is going to be behind bars for now as he awaits trial. Gunna, Young Thug, and 26 other YSL members were named in a RICO indictment for murder, assault, robbery, and more.
Gunna And Young Thug’s Trial Date
According to award-winning journalist Jewel Wicker, a Georgia state judge refused to release Gunna and Young Thug.
Wicker witnessed the proceedings as a member of the press. She reported that the “Drip Season” rapper was denied bond and will remain in jail until his trial. The trial has been set for January 2023.
The prosecutors argued that Gunna is a “documented gang member”, adding that he, alongside Young Thug, would “direct troops” to commit acts of violence. The biggest concern for Judge Glanville is witness tampering.
Gunna and Young Thug were indicted on May 9 on state RICO charges, alongside 26 members of the YSL “enterprise”. They both are currently jailed without bond.
Young Thug’s lawyer, Brian Steel, filed an emergency motion on May 13, stating that his client was placed in “solitary confinement”. He described the cell as a “windowless cement compartment with only a bed and a toilet and an overhead light which remains on 24 hours per day”. Steel also pointed out that the rapper is unable to sleep, rest, or meditate due to having “no opportunity to exercise, shower or have human contact.”
Gunna Turns Himself In To Authorities On RICO Charges
In related news, the “Pushin’ P” rapper turned himself in to GA authorities over the RICO charges leveled against him. Gunna is now in custody, alongside purported YSL “founder” Young Thug in a sweep of 28 members of the Atlanta-based street gang.
