Within their FADER cover feature, group member Swae Lee questions where Hot 97 radio personality Ebro’s past claim of them not writing their music came from.
“It’s such a false statement,” he says now. “Where’d it come from? You pulled it out your a**. If you want to know who wrote my shit, go to my album credits.” [Manager] Migo attributes the misunderstanding to age difference. “Ebro’s from a whole other generation, which is cool. He probably grew up on Ice Cube,” he says. “Rae Sremmurd make music that’s familiar to them, music they like to make. I think that most of the culture now leans toward that music too.” Mike WiLL’s response is more succinct: “I don’t think Ebro understands what good is.” (The FADER)
Last year, Ebro lit up Sremmurd and claimed they did pen their raps.
They didn’t write that sh*t,” he says, “Any of it. Maybe some of it. Mike WiLL Made-It — you know that his name is Mike WiLL-Made It? He made that album. They’re Kriss Kross. It was a fabricated thing that we all liked.” Mike WiLL took to Twitter to respond, saying: “If Sremm didn’t write they raps, who the f*ck did?” to which Ebro replies with “Drummer’s Ear & you…and them some. Stop it.” (HYPETRAK)
Rather than fall back, Rae Sremmurd responded to Ebro in an interview and freestyle.
“People wanna express they opinions,” Swae Lee said in an interview. “It’s his opinion. He good for it. Express your opinion. We banging out. We just making music. It’s a new era of music. Music is evolving. People just gotta get their heads wrapped around it.” (“Tim Westwood TV)”)
