Rich Gang’s Young Thug has updated fans on the status of his upcoming Slime Season underground project with expectations of it coming out on Independence Day.

Thugger announced the new release had suffered a setback and referenced Wayne’s popular Sorry 4 The Wait mixtape collection on Twitter Friday (July 3).

Last month, Thug announced the new release would come out on the Fourth of July.

The original release would have had the project face-off against music rival Lil Wayne’s delayed Free Weezy Album project.

While perhaps unintentional, the date of the release is ironic considering the rappers’ ongoing beef. During Lil Wayne’s Release Partiez shows, he would throw shots allegedly aimed at Young Thug. At a Columbus, Ohio show in April, Lil Wayne told fans “Carter V coming soon. Ain’t no motherf*ckin’ such thing as Carter 6.” Young Thug’s album was initially titled Carter 6. He changed the title from Carter 6 to Barter 6 after allegedly being threatened with a lawsuit. (Billboard)

Earlier this year, Thugger said he would take Wayne’s Carter V album title if he did not put out his delayed LP.

“I’ma drop one more mixtape before my album. The album is called High Tunes. I’ma drop one more mixtape. I’ll probably name it Tha Carter V ’cause the original Carter V still ain’t came out yet, I don’t know what the f–k they doing, they slowcoaching. So I’ma put that muthafucka out for ’em. That’s how it’s going down. High Tunes.” (NDO Radio)
