West Coast rapper YG recently updated fans on his long-awaited follow-up album to last year’s My Krazy Life and dished on his relationship with DJ Mustard.
YG talked about his gangbanging past having an influence on his studio debut and his upcoming LP.
“My parents told me when I was young, “You’re going to be dead or in jail,” all that sh*t. Now that I got [shot], they try to tell me more stuff. My family is always praying for me. But I’m not doing what I was doing back in the day. I was robbing, breaking into houses. I ain’t doing that. I am who I am, though — still. The streets made me who I am. … I’ve been through real sh*t and I still go through real shit, and I made it in sticky situations and turned the negative into a positive.” (Billboard)
YG also denied speculation of possibly having any lasting issues with longtime pal DJ Mustard following a publicized dispute a few months ago.
“Beefing again [Laughs],” YG joking replied when asked if he was beefing with Mustard again or if they were working together on the new album. “No, we straight. He got a joint on the new album I think. I’m still figuring it all out.” (Billboard)
Brief with his words, Mustard recently assured concerned supporters the rapper would pull through his injuries after being shot earlier this month.
Back in January, YG downplayed his short-lived dispute with Mustard.
“Me and that homie, we fought and we got it over with and we homies,” YG said about ending his feud with Mustard. “This ain’t the first time. Mustard did his thing and I did my thing. … This is not the first time we did this. We fight all the time.” (Hot 97)
