This was the first Yakuza game I have played in a VERY long time. I want to say the last one I played was on Playstation 2. When I was given the opportunity to review it, I figured what better way to get back into the series?

It didn’t disappoint at all.

Sega is on top of this one for real folks. One of the best things about this title is you could have missed all the others and picked right back up without skipping a beat. With that in mind, here’s the top five reasons you should get out and buy Yakuza 6: The Song of Life IMMEDIATELY.

Reason 1: Epic Fighting Sequences

Imagine, putting the God of War fighting system in Grand Theft Auto, you would have this version of Yakuza. I love the fighting in this one. Button mashing may not be the best for some people, but with the number of enemies you face at one time, it’s rather beneficial. Kiyru is one of the cooler gangster characters you will come across. More on him later though.

Reason 2: Storyline

It’s been a while since I played this series, like I was saying earlier. I do remember one thing which always stood out from those earlier games, the story was always worth playing. In this one, Kiyru does his time in jail to wash away his crimes he committed while serving as Fourth Chairman of the Tojo Clan. Now his time is done and he’s out, time to live a normal life with the orphanage he started up. But, as always with most gangsters “Every time I try to get out, they keep pulling me back in!” Godfather style. If only for the Yakuza ties, check this one out for the storyline. Almost any gamer knows to watch all the way through the credits. This one is no different. All the plot twists and turns lead you to a great reveal and an even better finale.

Reason 3: The Gift Set

If you pre-ordered the Collector’s edition, you get some dope swag along with it. You get a hardcover art book and bar-inspired paraphernalia including two 280ml glasses, two ice stones, and two Tojo Clan coasters. This is perfect for anyone who is a die hard follower of the series.

Reason 4: Vigilante Justice

Build up your own gang to take down The Six Lunatics. They’re the biggest “gang” in the game. Although not really integral to the story, there are moments you can’t avoid mixing up with these guys. For real, they made these dudes STRONG AF! So, make sure to build up your character as strong as possible before actively seeking these folks out.

Reason 5: The Unforgettable Final Battle

Plot twists come at you left and right in this one. All the twists, turns and deaths lead you to the moment of truth. The final boss battle is nothing short of EPIC. It’s one of the harder bosses I have ever had to fight since Sepiroth in Final Fantasy VII. It’s hard but it’s not impossible. Complete side missions and build up Kiryu’s strength as much as you can to beat this dude. Frustration with this dude will drive you to drop some expletives for sure. Just take the advice I usually follow, “I’m better than the game!” you’ll be fine.

Sega appears to have gone all in on this one. I always had a soft spot in my heart for Sega, because the Dreamcast was just a head of its time. Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is a great one for sure. I enjoyed this one, even during the excruciatingly LONG introduction. It’s long for a reason, they spin you up from everything that happened in the previous games. This one draws you in with a good mystery story that turns QUICK! Power up, super saiyan style and crush other gangs who get in your way. From the amazing graphics to the extremely dope fighting system, this one is a good set up to get people ready for God of War. Make sure to get out and cop this one when it drops. Be sure to let me know what you think too.
