A couple days after Wyclef Jean was shot in the hand while visiting Haiti, the rapper/singer’s sister has come forward to speak on the incident.

Considering Jean’s support for Haiti presidential candidate Michel Martelly, his sister felt confident in their country’s future despite the violent act.

“You can wound a man, but you can not stop a revolution,” Wyclef’s sister Melky Jean told MTV News on Sunday. “I pray for a peaceful election day. I pray that democracy is restored in Haiti, and there is an end to the violence and suffering.” (MTV)

A spokesperson also informed fans of Jean’s condition following the shooting.

On Monday morning (March 21), spokesperson Derek Johnson said Wyclef is out of the hospital and resting comfortably after the incident. “Fortunately, Wyclef is fine, undeterred by the incident and looking forward to his return home to finish his forthcoming album,” Johnson said in a statement. Details of the shooting emerged online early Sunday (March 20) morning.

Hip-hop singer Wyclef Jean was recovering Sunday after he was shot in the hand, his publicist said. Spokeswoman Cindy Tanenbaum said Jean, who was in Haiti, was shot in Port-au-Prince on Saturday — on the eve of the country’s presidential runoff vote. The wound was superficial, she said. The singer was taken to a hospital, treated and released. “He is doing well,” Tanenbaum said. (CNN)

The incident was also confirmed by ex-Fugees member Pras.

“Everyone can relax Wyclef is fine… They can’t stop us not one bullet or a machine gun!!!!!!!,” he tweeted Saturday.

“Yes they shot Wyclef and he’s in the hospital and he’ll be fine. They just shot his hand ..”

“Mess with me, I’ll fight back. Mess with my friends, I’ll hurt you. Mess with the ones I love, and they’ll never be able to identify you.” (Pras’ Twitter)
