In Clef’s perspective, turning his bond from friendship to intimate with Hill likely caused the Fugees to fall apart.

“I’m sure he definitely blame me. And if you go back to the old articles one time, you know where Pras was like, ‘Clef is the cancer of the Fugees.’ You remember when he said that? At the time, you’ve gotta understand his frustration though. It was more like, ‘I really wanted this thing to work and you shouldn’t have messed with the girl. Matter of fact, didn’t I warn you about messing with the girl?’ Now, as a man and looking back, definitely take blame in the sense of having fell for Lauryn at the time.” (Power 106)

Last month, Lauryn finally spoke out on the rumors of her relationship with Clef.

“When you are on the other side of liberation, just make sure you are not late. Be careful how you judge, there is a lot of deception out there. A lot of misunderstanding out there. A lot of miscommunication out there. A lot of false information out there. And notice, out of all the people who talk talk talk, who’s the silent one. There’s a lot of chat, but me…. And you know why? Let me tell you why I don’t chat back. Because I know that my brothers and my sisters are often times pawns in a bigger scheme so when they, under pressure, attack me, I love them still. It’s called the high road. Try taking it sometimes.” (Necole Bitchie)

She also defended her image and mental state of mind amid the media speculation.

“I’m not going to play my hand like the suppressive system would have me play my hand. Because I know [about] the oppression that took place in Haiti, and Jamaica, and America, and Africa and Europe. So just be patient. The truth always surfaces and especially, all you black folks out there who have had black mothers who carried you through thick and thin, when the system wanted to call them crazy, just remember that… You know I know I’m not crazy, that’s why I can use the word so freely. Crazy like a fox? Ahead of the curve. People don’t like people that’s ahead of the curve but unfortunately that’s not my problem.” (Necole Bitchie)

In ‘Clef’s Purpose: An Immigrant’s Story autobiography released earlier this year, the rapper details his secret Hill romance.

It’s no secret that ex-Fugees members Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill had a bad falling out, but Wyclef’s new claims may make you see the situation in a completely different light. In his new autobiography, Purpose: An Immigrant’s Story–which hits stores tomorrow–Clef says the initial crack that broke up The Fugees began when Lauryn made him believe that her first born son was his, when it was actually Rohan Marley‘s (son of Bob Marley). Wyclef writes, “In that moment something died between us. I was married and Lauryn and I were having an affair, but she led me to believe that the baby was mine, and I couldn’t forgive that.” He continues by adding, “She could not longer be my muse. Our love spell was broken.” (VIBE)
