Wu-Tang Clan leader RZA received some love from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) during its 35th anniversary last night (September 30).

The non-profit organization honored RZA a.k.a. Bobby Digital at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles for staying committed to animal rights.

Taking the stage to accept his award, the Wu-Tang Clan star said, “I would like to thank PETA for honoring me with a Humanitarian Award. It’s an award that does not aim to reflect my art—it instead reflects my heart. With the abundance of … alternatives, I don’t think it’s mandatory to kill animals in order … to thrive and survive. And, more importantly, it’s definitely not mandatory to kill each other.” (PETA)

Last year, RZA and Wu member Masta Killa kicked meats out of their diets.

The musician understands that the choices he makes in his own life can either contribute to or help alleviate the pain and suffering that animals experience at the hands of the meat industry. RZA, along with PETA friend Masta Killa and other Wu-Tang members, has chosen to live better today, knowing that it’ll truly make for a better tomorrow. And he hopes others will be inspired to go vegan to help to save the lives of animals and for their own well-being. (PETA)

In 2013, rap star Jay Z and R&B wife Beyoncé completed a 22-day vegan diet.

Mission accomplished! Beyoncé and Jay Z have completed their 22-day vegan challenge. The couple decided to eliminate meat and animal products from their diets until Christmas, the rapper announced via his Life + Times blog just one day before his 44th birthday on Dec. 3. A source tells E! News that the “Drunk in Love” collaborators dined at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen in Norcross, Ga., over the weekend. The spouses of five years traveled south to Miami, where they once again opted to eat seafood. (E! Online)

Young Hov initially broke the vegan diet news to fans via his Life + Times lifestyle website.

“Psychologists have said it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. On the 22nd day, you’ve found the way. On December 3rd, one day before my 44th birthday I will embark on a 22 Days challenge to go completely vegan, or as I prefer to call it, plant-based!! This all began a few months back when a good friend and vegan challenged me to embrace a “plant-based breakfast” everyday. It was surprisingly easier on me than I thought… Why now? There’s something spiritual to me about it being my 44th birthday and the serendipity behind the number of days in this challenge; 22 (2+2=4) coupled with the fact that the challenge ends on Christmas day…It just feels right!” (Life + Times)
