With New York rapper Ja Rule celebrating his 40th birthday this week, Chicago hip-hop veteran Twista talks to SOHH about what musicians hitting their 40’s.

The 42-year-old rapper said hip-hop artists should enjoy life and embrace their craft getting better with age.

“Just enjoy it!,” Twista told SOHH about artists like 50 Cent, Rick Ross and Lil’ Kim recently turning 40. “Hip-hop was younger but now it is getting older, we are realizing that just because it is mostly done by the black youth doesn’t mean that careers have to be short-lived. It is my belief that people should rap well into their old age, just like James Brown and any other person from any other music genre!” (SOHH)

Recently, Twista spoke to SOHH and shared his thoughts on streaming services taking over the music industry.

“It’s not going to die out, it may change, technology is ever-changing music and I can’t really predict the direction,” Twista told SOHH. “But what I do know is people like making music and there will always be a format or forum to present it, market and sell it! I always try to follow the newest ways and trends if I feel it helps me!” (SOHH)

Last month, frequent Twista collaborator Kanye West dished out his loyalty to TIDAL.

Recently, fellow Chicago native Rhymefest shared his issues with streaming sites.

“It does kind of bother me that I go to my friends’ $20 million houses, and last year I was trying to figure out how to pay my mortgage. It’s not their fault, totally. When you look at the way artists get paid now, streaming has decimated the income of the writer, so the writer doesn’t really have a career anymore. My ASCAP royalty checks went from a lot to almost nothing.” (The Daily Beast)
