Honored by the opportunity to be featured on one of the LP’s most-lauded tracks, Ferrell said he hopes he can get more exposure on the hip-hop scene.

“Kanye reached out to me and I said, ‘Of course,’ ” Ferrell wrote in an e-mail referring to the Blades of Glory sample request. “I was completely flattered when they asked if they could sample me into the song … and when I heard it for the first time, I just started to laugh because it felt so surreal. But I really did like the song.” So much so, in fact, that Ferrell said he’s hoping to take the Throne collaboration to the next level — “We were trying to film a piece that they would use on the video boards of their concert, but haven’t gotten it together,” he wrote — and the whole process has opened his eyes to an entirely new career opportunity: Being the go-to sample guy on the hip hop circuit. “I think [something from] ‘Step Brothers’ would be good [to use in a song],” he wrote. “Or the Woody Allen movie I did, ‘Melinda and Melinda.'” (MTV)

The smash hit has reached number one status on the Billboard music chart.

Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “N*ggas in Paris” from Watch the Throne just hit #1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Billboard chart. This accomplishment is made even more impressive when we consider that the advertising for “N*ggas in Paris” has been minimal at best and the refrain “Ball so hard motherf*ckers want to fine me” is not particularly radio friendly. This week, “N*ggas in Paris also rose to #17 on the Billboard Hot 100. (Jay-Z News)

This week, Jay-Z and Kanye West were presented with platinum plaques for Watch the Throne‘s retail success.

Following their sold out Madison Square Garden show on Monday night, the superstar rappers were presented with a pair of ginormous platinum plaques (a super-sized version of the album’s cover art, conceived by Italian designer Riccardo Tisci), signifying worldwide sales of over two million units for Watch the Throne. Their collaborative studio album, released on August 8, sold 436,000 copies in the U.S. in its first week alone and topped the iTunes album chart in 23 different countries. It marked Jay-Z’s twelfth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 and West’s fifth. (The Hollywood Reporter)

Last year, rap star Redman compared his Reggie LP to the likes of Will Ferrell’s The Other Guys 2010 movie comedy.

“I like questions that make me think [Laughs]. I want to give you a good answer for that one. I usually think of movies when I’m doing this sh*t. I would compare it to something that moves fast like Snatch. That’s an excellent movie put together from beginning to end. Reggie could be The Other Guys because playing cops is something that’s out of the box for Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. For The Rock and Samuel L. Jackson to be together was pretty genius too. Samuel L. Jackson played it both ways as far as being dramatic and funny. The Rock is definitely funny, and it was hilarious to see them teaming up. That was something new for all of those guys. That’s how I look at the album as The Other Guys!” (Artist Direct)
