Music veteran DJ Clark Kent recently revealed being around rap mogul Jay Z during his drama with late rapper Tupac Shakur in the mid-1990’s and how close Hov came to releasing a diss record.

According to Kent, the unexpected murder of Pac forced Jay to never release the song although he did perform it during at an non-televised show.

“There was a record, it never came out, out of respect for the fact that he died. Jay did a record going at Pac, but right as it was about to come out, son died. We performed it, though, we performed it once. You have to understand, the chip on Jay’s shoulder is so crazy that he had to perform it. We was at the Apollo and he performed it. Crowds was like, ‘Oh sh*t!’ It was super hard. Super hard. If he was alive, there would have been no coming back. This was so tough. To me, it probably was one of the hardest diss records I ever heard.” (“A Waste of Time”)

Back in 2006, Young Hov dished on taking a jab at Pac during a live concert.

The performance was confirmed by Jay himself in an XXL interview from 2006 — apparently he spit over the “No Diggity” beat, but no record of the performance exists. “They usually tape the Apollo shows, but they just stopped taping for some reason,” Jay told the magazine. “We tried to find the tape. It’s 2,000 people that know about it. I did two verses. “It’s the truth, that’s the best sh*t,” he added of the diss. “It’s so liberating, when you say what the f*ck you wanna say.” (Billboard)

After 4 months on my new job my income is around five thousand five hundred bucks/per month If this interests you: 1)navigate to the site link in the description

    • Fuck outta here. Lyrically nobody was seeing JayZ 95-96 but big L and Biggie. Niggas Know. All yall on here probably was like 4-5 years old then. I was 13-14 in 95-96. Really listening to that shit. Nobody was fucking with Can I live nor Dead Presidents for that matter. It Was Written couldnt fuck with Reasonable Doubt, not ever. Illmatic was timeless and a classic, but reasonable doubt had so many verses with no choruses and just so much clever language. Nas lyrically has one complete whole good album, Illmatic. It was Written, was all damn Steve Stoute.

      • Without nas there would not be any Jay z or Biggie! Jay had Nas on his wall old ass Nukka!

        • You sound real stupid. Straight Nas Stan. I guess Nas told Puff to fuck with Big. Guess Nas told Puff to start Bad Boy. You smoking that good meth right? Dumb ass Stan

          • I am not a Nas Stan Nukka! You guys don’t know shit about Jay and Nas. I ran those streets in NY little Nukka when they were beefing. You guys get your shut through the media and internet false shit! F what you heard! I lived it! Nas’s Ether murdered Jay ass!

          • You live what? Nigga I was in NY too, fuck you talking bout. Im 34. i dont give a fuck about what they did in the streets. Jay did waaaay more shit in the streets than Nas. Way more. Nigga wasnt getting Jerked by MC Search either. Came in on his own label. Bet his own money. Stop frontin. Yall niggas hate Jay cuz you cant hustle like him. Jealousy is a bitch emotion. Like Common told Cube, Imma get bitch in yoo, outta yoo. Lame as fuckboy.

          • Dude what are talking about…I did not say I did like Jay Z. I stated he can’t F Nas lyrically and ran off to some crazy! You see that is my problem with uneducated dudes, you don’t stick to the stories or statements.

      • You are crazy in your ass! Nobody is f with Nas! Nas ran that shit Nukka! Jay was Biggies hype man! Nas GOAT!

  1. how can you write a story on pure speculation? pac was pac enuff said.

  2. So disrespectful. Jay is dope but you’re an idiot if you believe jay would win that battle. 2Pac is the GOAT!

  3. I’m just as Big a pac fan as the next man… No way Jay woulda ended pac but no way pac woulda ended Hov… And if n*ggas still thinking nas beat Jay… Well OK… there’s that

    • Think LL and Canibus. Canibus won and defeated LL lyrically but L had the buzz. Nobody was checkin for Jay Z but east side niggas. Jay z needs Sigel, bleek, and Dame to keep people checkin for him. It was just pac and he went after everybody. Jay career woulda been over if Pac woulda dropped a hit em up type track.

      • True wasn’t a lot of people checking for Jay. It was BIG…then everybody else. Pac had a lot love from both sides, the top and the bottom. Pac had nothing to lose he just got out Jay couldn’t keep up with that ammo. State Prop gave the Roc that edge but that was 4 yrs after the fact. The only mofos I give props to for going at Pac was Mobb Deep everybody else was quiet lol

      • Strongly disagree. Pac said the same thing over and over and over. He was limited. Great messages but not a lyricist by far. His dis track sounded like his regular tracks. F your click, Westside, I’m a rider, Bussin at these busta’s/police/thugs/niggs, etc…. Jay’s lyrical prowess covers a larger portion of the rap spectrum.

        • Ain’t nothing I can take away from Jay z! That man did his thing only wish I did half the things, but this is a dead argument. You tryna water Pac down… That’s crazy but hey that’s your opinion

        • All Jay-Z raps about is bragging about what he has and lying about being a mafia don. 2Pac touched on like a million different subjects in his music. Seems like you just listened to one diss song.

          • Start naming those topics….I’ll wait. If it wasn’t thuggin, killing people or poverty what else did Pac rap about….I’ll wait

      • Nobody was checking for Jay!?… Lol.. well alright brother… He had just dropped volume 2 and 3 then the dynasty… Three number one albums that sold over ten million combined son lol…and if we talking pac era I can see your Point but pac woulda shined light on Jay sooner and believe it or not Jay is a better rapper than pac..

        • All those albums you named….after Pac and Big. He’s had a nice career, but I seen him in the bright lights and suits while big was here tryna be seen. And yes nobody was checkin for him.

          • Yeah I agree… @that time Big was the whole East Coast..and Pac obviously was the West but to say Hov needed bleek beans and dame?… Come on homie.. you border line hating…Reasonable Doubt dropped and was critically acclaimed… Then volume 1 dropped and was the number one album in the country my G.. so to say nobody was checking for the man… You’re reaching…

          • Nobody listened to Reasonable Doubt when it came out. When Reasonable Doubt came out Jay-Z was known as Foxy Brown’s hype man. Reasonable Doubt was a complete ripoff of Biggie’s style. Right before Reasonable Doubt, Jay-Z was still speed rapping. I got some Jay-Z songs from 94-96 and he sounded nothing like he did on Reasonable Doubt. Like I said before Jay-Z dickrider. I lived during that era.

          • And I guess I was born died during that era then came back and didn’t live through that era???… And if you was talking facts and not hating you would remember that Dame was the hype Man when Hov and fox performed.. but you’re clearly just a weirdo with an agenda… Shalom

          • Ever heard of Wu Tang, Nas, Mobb Deep. So no Biggie wasn’t the whole east coast at the time.

          • It wasn’t meant to be taken literally… I’m sorry I had to explain that to you…

          • Actual facts that Jay-Z superfans try to rewrite the history on. He owes his success to those cats dying and being able to come out of their shadow because he was 2nd or 3rd string when they were alive. Some of us remember.

          • he was 10th string when they were alive. He was Jaz-O’s hype man for 10 years, then he was Foxy Brown’s hype man.

        • Nas stands alone Nukka! Nas does not need Niggas in Paradise songs… Catch my drift…

      • Canibus did not win. LL came back and killed him with one line.. “99 perfcent of your fans dont exist”… Everybody stop fucking with Canibus after that song. Straight facts

    • Sure Nas didn’t beat Jay-Z, not only did the voting public of NY voted that he lost, Jay-Z himself has alluded to himself losing the battle in song and by going on the radio to cry about the results. Let me guess, you’re one of those people that say Jay-Z is richer than Nas so he won in life lol gtfoh. Jay-Z was destroyed on Ether and his response to it was trash.

      • well guess what happened to their career after that, Hov dropped 6 platinum albums and Nas just about became number 2 hahaha the truth hurts i know

        • Hey, Nas is doing well homie! Jay followed the white masses homie. Jay is now a pop rapper!

Nas stayed for the blackness! Life is Good for Nasir. Nas will go down for the greatest diss song ever and lit that boy Jay ass up!

        • Jay-Z has dropped nothing but garbage albums since then. And he has to get a phone company to buy his albums in order to go platinum. Been a longtime since in my lifetime vol 2.

          • Yeah all platinum. So if you want to go with the majority vote. Guess whose career has been better since Either? I dont have to tell u, right idiot

      • We talking about rapping not life… I could care less about the next mans pockets homie… I could care less about “the voting public of NY” lol.. Since they said it.. It’s law??… Jay takeover VERSE made nas spit the hardest SONG of his career.. Ima fan of hip-hop and lyrics… I listened to Jay spit facts and nas spit lies and gay jokes… Can’t take away from the impact of ether but stop being a sheep with your cause they said this… he did that logic.. you probably think bobby shmurda was Better than Joey bada$$ cause the NY voting public like Hot ni**a lol!!… Foh cornball…

        • I been saying this for a minute. Nas’s delivery on ether made it seem a lot tougher than it actually was, but Jay was really going in his chest with everything he was saying.

          • Exactly… Ether was a dope song no doubt… constructed beautifully.. but takeover.. super ugly.. and blueprint 2.. were better DISS tracks because Jay went in with facts…

          • Nas only need one record and not an entire album! Jay Z is Peyton Manning and Nas is Tom Brady! Peyton has all the yards, but Nas has all the people. The People’s Champion!

          • Bad analogy all the way around… Nice try though.. But quick question… If nas truly has the people… Where you Niggas be@when Jay doing stadiums and nas doing the House of blues?… Where y’all be when nas albums drops?… Because Men lie women lie… You know the rest…Ima big nas fan by the way… But the Jay haters is also the Mayweather haters and the LeBron haters you cats are ridiculous… Give props and keep it moving… Good day sir..

          • There you go! No one gives a f about stadiums and album sales. You are one of the fake ass rap listeners. You a 2 chain listener. A trap music Nukka. Anything that trends and sell. You ride and suck Jay penis so hard because of what he has or how many albums sold shit…Nukka! You a MC Hammer Nukka as well! I love Jay but when you talking about rapping he is no where Nas’s level. And… for a Lebron and Money Mayweather I love them and give them many cheers. So you shut the F up! I went and seen both and Lebron many of time..: I just don’t penis ride like the rest of ya’ll materialistic Negros! Nas is our People’s Champion! Biggie, 2Pac and Jay went after Nas because you always want to go against the best. They knew that Nas was on top of his shit. The best my Nukka! Now can you say that for Jay without his materialistic thinking?

We talking about rapping and not that Pop rapping Jay does now. Again I love Jay Z but I can’t give him that rap shit because of selling. Rap was never built on selling. It was straight from the streets little Nukka!

          • Clearly you didn’t understand why I said what I said… It wasn’t a comparison or “Jay is better because he sales more albums” I was challenging your Point of nas has the people… Where is your proof? Because from the looks of things Jay has the people… And pause yo whole life with the talk of d*cks and all that other fa**t shi* you talking and learn how to have a conversation…

          • Alright father like son talk…Jay has the white people because he is a Pop rapper like that dreadful Eminem. Jay went on the other side in which is not a bad move for marketing and selling albums at the age 45 or 46. Look what rap music is now. (trap music)

Nas has the street black people that really know rap music. He was voted long time ago when he ethered Jay. Nas is our People’s Champion without all the hype and popish nursery rhymes. You feel me now, son!

          • You’re a funny Guy… I like you… You gotta give Eminem credit though… From a technical stand point alone the boy can rap..But Last time they did the best MC sh*t with real hip hop heads Jay was still ahead of nas … It just is what it is… Versatility is the name of the game my G… Salute Nas though…

          • Jay wanted to be Nas my Nukka! So what are you saying… The dude had Nas on his wall… The rock sign was first from nas, the new cap was nas, and I am not even talking about Nas’s music… I am just saying. And… Nas’s girl…can you guys get it?

        • It’s a known fact that JZ was getting rob in Marcy.
It’s a known fact that JZ was biting Biggies verses.
It’s a known fact that JZ was sprung over Foxy.
It’s a known fact that JZ was a Nas stan.
Finally it’s a well known fact that Nas murk’d Rockafella’s roster on the Stillmatic freestyle.
What lies are you referring to sun?

          • It’s a known fact to who my G?… To you?… Facts because you said it in a comment section?Find me a article find me a interview… Find me entire big verse or anybody else verse for that matter.. don’t tell me nothing bout him using lines cause hip-hop been doing that since the beginning and not to mention Hov is one of the most quoted rappers of all-time… Sounds like you’re a upset nas fan…

          • No I’m a hip hop fan and live in New York. Everybody and their mother know that Jay was getting squeezed in his own PJ’s B.

Nas was spitting some real facts…I’m not going to even breakdown what he touched on regarding the Un Rivera situation…

          • That whole un situation is well documented… But I never heard nothing bout the man getting shook down in Marcy even when jaz dehaven Klein and all them other ni99as was doing interviews hating none of them said nothing bout the man getting bullied..

          • Yep, lot of people leave that out. The myth has made the Un stabbing about some bootlegs when I always heard it was about Charlie Baltimore.

          • I was there homie! These cats don’t know shit. Just creating a lot of propaganda! Nas owned NY when ether dropped!

          • Shut the F up! Nas GOAT… He is the People Champion. Nobody is F with Nas in rapping period! He is the best to ever do it! Now f what you heard little ass Nukka!

          • He is not the ppl’s champ. Love his music, but his album’s suck. But the tier for me in rhyming is AZ, Nas, Jayz and Big. Wont get me to choose whose better. They are the echelon of rapping. You a Nas Stan and a JayZ dick rider and hater. I dont have that problem. I have all of their catalog and have listened to enough of all them to be able to make that assessment. Anything else bitch? Your home work assignment. Cop Executive Decisions. Im out.

          • Do you wood board search or internet search? I don’t F with uneducated dudes… Lame ass Nukka now F what you heard!

          • Uneducated syas the man with no degree. And mine says LSU, bachelor’s in business. I have lived the street life and the bullshit Army/college life. And I dont care to read your replies, so I will just say this. Illmatic to Reasonable Doubt are equal. Nobody can touch either wordplay. Nas Stans like you have a hard time accepting, that Jay-Z did what Nas was supposed to do commercially. It is Jay-z fault that he dumbed down so the masses could understand. But in his heart, he is still the same one who made Dp1 and 2, devils, regrets. Nas tried to do it, with “you owe me”, terrible song. Ya’ll Nas stans live off one Album. Jay is not supposed to be any good anymore, he did it biggger than any artist besides PAc. He shouldnt have anymore left to say. But again, Nas aint murder shit. Yall lames think bc the majority say something its true. Its like wih this Meek Mill Drake shit. Drake aint kill shit. Both of them disses was wack as fuck. And Meeks was too. These days mofos get hyped off the hype.

          • I can poop on your little butt degree and tell LSU that I can be a professor at their college. And… if Shaq can graduate from there anyone can! You feel me! Nas all day and every day my Nukka!

          • Jay was not even popular with the likes of
Az, Nas or Big back then… Jay blew up after Biggie died! Sorry you lost!

And you can’t compare BP to Illmatic, it is laughable! Do your research little homie!

          • How he owned NY but stil didnt sell more than Bp. That is the most utterly riddiculous statement. Owned lol. No. Nas was dead and came bk to life. Jay resirected his career and Nas has had one Good Album since 2001. Jay has had 3-4

          • life is good was a good album and you can’t say what you want… but we real rap dudes know… If Biggie and PAC were alive today they would shed some light on ya’ll dumb Nukkas. They both idolized Nas as well.

          • Dude you don’t know Jay Z. Shut up! Jay had posters of Nas dude… Shut up!

            Now those are your facts!!!

          • How Jay-Z was lobbying to get in the Firm before in my lifetime vol 2 like a stalker. It’s a known fact that people in the Marcy projects hate Jay-Z and has been exposed by them. Go youtube the video’s of people from Marcy who knew Jay-Z, telling the truth about him. Listen to his music, he always has bitten off of Biggie. And before In my lifetime Vol 2, people only knew him for being Foxy Brown’s hype man. Sorry Jay-Z dickrider. I lived during that era. Jay-Z was nothing but a footnote in hip hop his first two albums.

          • Jay z first album did 40k first week and got them the deal with def jam his second album was top 5 when it released and did over 100k it’s first week stop lying to yourself… Stop making up facts males shouldn’t be jealous… That’s a female trait.. lol you cats can still be nas fans without hating on Hov… Chill… You guys bleeding all over the comment section..

          • Yeah, I know, but since he made Super Jew friend Lyor Cohen who got him paid, these fools actually have bought into these myths and rewritten history like Reasonable Doubt wasn’t considered the K-Mart version of what Biggie was doing and that wasn’t nobody fucking with Jay like that back then. I remember buying Volume 1 and dudes from NYC when I was in college was like why I had that corny shit. These are the actual facts, not the made up fantasies about how dope everybody always knew Jay was. Fact is that if Pac and Biggie hadn’t died, scaring a lot of the fickle mainstream fans to start supporting bullshit like the Shiny Suit era, and Nas hadn’t been laying low because his Moms was dying, dude would have stayed 3rd string. With Puffy pushing hip hop toward that pop shit, that was Jay’s lane since he was a less versatile version of what Biggie had been doing with his 2 lanes of either dope fantasy stories or flashy raps…and we all know the dope boy stories didn’t make him hot. They were looking for somebody to fill that void of a Big Poppa or a Hyponotize and he jumped right in there while the body was still cold, acting like he was paying homage. A lot of cats are just too stupid to either see this or admit it. It’s the same way Master P got big, and at least some of the people around him have admitted that he saw the opportunity to get in those shoes and run with what some of Pac’s fans were missing with his attempts to do a K-Mart version of that same kind of rap Pac had perfected. I give all those dudes their props for whatever they could accomplish, but I’ll be damned if I sit around and let some peple try to confuse the public like this ain’t what happened.

          • Some kind of crack you smoking. “Dudes from NYC said why I had that”. O yeah that was the whole NY saying that. You just knew the whole NY was aaying that lol. Foh.

          • To say you the Silent partner you sure gotta lot to say… For one I’m from New Orleans… P and everybody on no limit been spitting that real shit… Mac? C? Soulja Slim? Nigga pac ain’t give p no lane you disrespecting that Mans hustle… And you talking this Nigga wasn’t feeling Jay when facts say differently from your opinion.. and if the people so confused I guess Jay been confusing em for damn near twenty years huh?.. give a man his credit for what they accomplish not back handed compliments… You can’t succeed with so much hate for success my G.. Shalom✌

          • A footnote of gold and plat. Hmmm. Something aint right. I know for a fact niggas in NY was calling Jayz Foxy Brown Hypeman. We were bumping Cant knock the hustle, Dead Presidents, and can I live faithfully. And Nas was not hot at the time and Big hadnt put an album out in two years, he was just featured on a lot of shit. So your logic and statements in what you saying are all fucked up. Im 34, so I was realling in the streets at the time living in NY. And you probably are in North Dakaote or somehwere far from NYc talking that shit. Foh

          • You need to learn how to spell correctly Mr. LSU and stop letting Jay poop in your mouth! Nas GOAT!

          • Why would he lobby to be in the Firm. Doesnt make a like of Sense. To people like u. Lol. Smh. He had the Commision.

          • Lmao, I know, right. Jay didn’t have shit for Nas except saying he fucked his baby mama who was apparently fucking every body else too. Nas got up in that ass and let it be known who really was the gold standard when it came to that shit.

          • Yeah smoking crack aint good. Really not good. Known facts right? Calvin Klein, one of New York Top Drug Kings, who Jayz rode with never mentioned any of this. So who lying, you(who never been around Hov, only hating niggas) or Klein? Ok. I’ll wait. Lame ass nigga

  4. Pac would have slaughtered JZ on a regular 27/7…and trust Jay wouldn’t of had enough ammunition to keep up. Pac was banging hard on wax and he murk’d a grip of ni**gaz on that Makaveli album.

  5. Jay loosing to Nas is idiotic. Jay had facts as always. Nas was childish, a bunch of gay talk, insults and threats on a vicious beat and feelings of hate behind his words nothing more. Then the dude that broke up your happy home, you gonna go work for? As far as Pac, yall are forgetting it was no state prop, just reasonable doubt jay that was relevant and a lyrical beast when big and Pac was alive. Only Biggie, Pun, and Big L was seeing him on the mic. Too many Jay haters that’s why he’s been winning so long…

    • I concur. Fucked his BM and was Nas’s boss for a 3 years. But he lost though. 500milly and A Beyonce later, still winning. Mofos want him to lose so bad. We should be hailing him. Not godlike but happy ik the fact that he getting to the money. And came from nothing

    • Pac wasn’t a lyricist. Not like J Nas, Mos Def, Talib, Biggie, Scarface, KRS1 and many others. LL was a better lyricist than Pac.

      • No he wasn’t homes, he had passion and something everyone can relate to, I agree with you.

      • I think Jayz haters are definitely the worst. Incompetent, self hating, jealous, losers. That’s what I see.

  6. I own every Tupac album and I will say, Tupac was going to die. Period. He was talking too much. Niggas do understand you cant be running your mouth wreckless. This nigga got shot on two dofferent occasions. But aint kill nobody. Pac wasnt a gansta. At all. Jay z wouldnt have killed him. Nas beating Jayz is crazy. How he beat him when Jayz fucked his Bm and became his Boss. Do you idiots even realize what winning is? Smh

  7. DJ Clark Kent need to stop it. This dude said it would’ve been over for Pac if Jay would’ve dropped his diss record. Pac took on a entire coast and was just relentless!!! Them east coast dudes went silent. He was calling these dudes names out!!! Pac took on all the heavy hitters (Nas, Big, Mood Deep, Jay Z) on the Eastcoast at the time. I think Pac would’ve really came out with some killer shit for Jay Z that would’ve been worst than Hit em Up. Pac would’ve probably ended Shawn Carter’s career before it started. Pac was just a beast with it… too raw. To be honest, Pac “Me Against the World” album probably shit on the entire Shawn Carter’s catalog…this is how big Pac was. Pac is legendary and his music is timeless. I can play All Eyes on Me, Makaveli, and Me Against the World straight through without skipping a damn song. That’s well over 40+ songs I can play without skipping. Tell me another MC with a perfect catalog like Pac. I am waiting!!!!

  8. check yourself if u don’t know ether is THE standard record in that beef(nothing that came after that really mattered ,,come on),,if u don’t understand it wasn’t just jay but rocafella the label that got ethered,,,if the reason jay made more songs is b/c he know he lost,,that jay moms told him chill he was gettn too into his feelings about it(he really liked Carmen) and if u peep stillmatic he laid down more dope bars on jay and crew,,for the record hov is still dope,,,he just lost one ,,,case closed

  9. Shit even Pac said he wasn’t the best out but one thing he has was passion. Sometimes it’s not what you say it’s how you say it.

  10. talking about 2pac not coming back from a diss? this dude survived bullets, prison and terrorism against his family via the government. GTFOH Clark Kent. Even Biggie didn’t want to respond and Big killed Jay on both songs.

  11. Can’t y’all, see that he’s fake, the rap version of TD jakes
Prophesizing on your CDs and tapes….
Cause the nigga wear a coofie, it don’t mean that he bright
Cause you don’t understand him, it don’t mean that he nice
It just means you don’t understand all the bullshit that he write
Is it “Oochie Wally Wally” or is it “One Mic”?
Is it “Black Girl Lost” or shorty owe you for ice?

  12. Jay-z was a nobody at the time and the only reason anyone outside of New York even knew his name was because Pac said it on the Makaveli record..”Jay-z die too” as a kid 90% of us was like who? Jay only became as big as he is now by sheer curcumstance, the two biggest rappers alive died and he saw his chance to sneak into their spot and for some reason nobody gave a shit.

  13. Come on, son! Jay is a lyrical coward, he purposely waited to do a diss record with Sauce Money called ” Dead or Alive Pt.1 and Pt.2. The streets had it, a week after his death and one of his verses said, My moms said, take beef to the grave. He was dead-ass silent went Pac went at him, the ONLY NY heads that spoke up was Mobb Deep and Royal Flush from QB. Jay is super-cheeks, Clark Kent must be blowing him for a favor.

    • I knew of Jay from jaz-o video Hawaii Sophie fame that I knew from that video Jay was going to be reckoned with

  14. Jay-Z wasn’t nice enough, his skills hadn’t evolved enough, to even stand a chance…..Hit Em Up would have been the tip of the iceberg and Pac’s status with the people was crazy at the time, woulda been no coming back for Jay…them 6 summers woulda never happened…

  15. Don’t give me that shit. Chino XL and Mobb Deep were the only ones that were calling Pac out by name. The rest were too pussy.

    • And what happened to their career 20 yrs later niggas still trying to kick start they shit???????
