Maybach Music Group’s Wale has dished his thoughts on hip-hop artist D.R.A.M. accusing Young Money’s Drake biting his “Cha Cha” smash for “Hotline Bling.”

Wale said he could understand D.R.A.M.’s frustrations and credited Apple for giving Drizzy power.

“Yes, yes,” Wale said when asked if he would also get mad if placed in D.R.A.M.’s situation. “I get mad when TSA look at me too long. I’m mad about everything. I’m mad this morning, put too much sugar in my coffee, I’m mad. But I’d be mad because that was his moment, that was his thing. There’s really no silver lining in that joint. That joint is vicious. … He can get away with it though, Apple, man. Steve Jobs ain’t on it. Apple don’t hire bad apples. They don’t want me to mess up the whole batch.” (“The Breakfast Club”)

In a previously unreleased The FADER cover story, Drizzy detailed the song’s origin.

“You know, like in Jamaica, you’ll have a riddim and it’s like, everyone has to do a song on that. Imagine that in rap, or imagine that in R&B. Imagine if we got one beat and every single person — me, this guy, this guy, all these guys — had to do a song on that one beat. So sometimes I’ll pick a beat that’s a bit, like, sunnier, I guess is the word you used, than usual, and I just try my hand at it. And that’s kind of what ‘Hotline Bling’ was. And I loved it. It’s cool. I’ve been excited by that sort of creative process.” (The FADER)

This week, hip-hop artist D.R.A.M. accused Drake of using his “Cha Cha” song’s sound for the hit single.

Drake’s “Hotline Bling” music video premiered via Apple Music a couple nights ago.

The opening scene features some ladies—clad in pink shirts—working the hotline at a call center. Then it switches over to Drizzy, who shows just how suave he can be with his moves. He does the cha cha against a white box and on a staircase, while decked out in turtlenecks and Timberlands. He is joined by his sexy co-stars, who flaunt their curvy assets while dancing in yoga pants. (Rap-Up)
