According to Flocka, his performance set had a technical error which made it appear as if he intentionally changed the song he was scheduled to perform.

“Me and my deejay, we playing the show and we messed the show up,” Flocka admitted in an interview with radio host Funkmaster Flex. “So that made me mad. I ain’t know who made anything. My boy messed around and played the wrong set. That was an act of God, that’s what happened but that wasn’t our fault. So I was just mad at that. I ain’t know who to point no fingers but I thought BET as a whole so I said, ‘You know what? I can’t let my anger get the best of me.’ I’mma chill and map this out the right way. Maybe I’m tripping. And I was — How could I go at it with this guy? He could tell everybody, ‘You do a song with him, you banned from BET.’ … He understood what happened with my side and I understand why he got mad.” (Hot 97)

In a separate interview, Flocka said he had hoped to speak with Hill and iron out their miscommunication.

“I wasn’t even upset, honestly,” the rapper said about his early departure from the taping. “My label had some stuff set up for me to leave and do some stuff for my album. So I guess by me leaving, everybody was like, ‘Oh, he mad.’ But I just dipped. I ain’t know what was going on…Really, I ain’t get to dig into it yet, but I’m in New York now, so we can sit down. I know it’s cool, though. We’re not archenemies or anything. I’m not mad at nothing. I’ve got an album coming out, I’m happy. … I’m financially almost straight, so I made BET, I got nominated. That’s a blessing. Ain’t too many people that can say that…That’s the man, the big dog. He paved the way for a lot of people to be seen, so it’s like, how could you slap an arm down like that? That would be, like, dumb.” (MTV)

Over the weekend, Hill tweeted his displeasure in Flocka’s set before apologizing.

“BET Hip-Hop Awards. The show was going so well…and then Waka Flak-ed. Yeah. I said it.”

“Waka. Flacka. Flamed. Out.”

“@WakaFlocka1017 let’s you and me talk. Bring your manager. I should NOT have sent that first text…but there’s some learning here. You in?” (Stephen Hill’s Twitter)

Flocka answered back to Hill’s tweets with his own messages.

“I THAK BET AS A WHOLE …..99% SHOULD I SAY ……ITS JUST THAT 1% IS A DUCK A** N*GGA”

“I KNO KIDS HATE WHEN THEY PARENTS GET ON TWITTER AND ACT LAME IS F*CK …..”

“I KICK A** AINT NOOOOO WAY N H*LL I’LL KISS IT A**” (Waka Flocka Flame’s Twitter)
