Atlanta rapper Waka Flocka appeared on NFL Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe’s podcast, Club Shay Shay, to share why he stopped flexing in the hood he grew up in. 

The 36-year-old rapper gave credit to the late comedy legend Dick Gregory for changing his mindset. 

“What made me stop hanging in the hood was Dick Gregory,” the “Grove St. Party” rapper said. 

He said a video of Dick Gregory helped him change his perspective on how he moves and thinks now.

“I watched this clip,” Waka Flocka said, “and Dick Gregory was like, ‘N*gga why you buy this Rolls Royce and roll through the hood, to show you the richest motherf*cker?”

He added that he bought luxury cars to “show off’ in front of people in his childhood projects in Atlanta. Waka Flocka openly said he regretted not buying property and added luxury cars aren’t important to him anymore.

Last September, Philadelphia rapper PnB Rock was shot and killed in Los Angeles and robbed of his jewelry. His fans on social media felt he shouldn’t have worn it in a rough L.A. neighborhood. 

Takeoff was fatally shot in Houston last November over a dice game, traditionally played in housing projects in the country.
