Legendary Houston rapper Scarface has hit up SOHH to set the record straight on a recent Def Jam comment he made, claiming his focus is on the future and not the past.

Face Mob said despite his brief Def Jam remarks, his cited comments stem from a separate interview focusing heavily on his new music.

“That interview, which was over a month ago, was NOT about Def Jam,” Face wrote in a statement. “It was an interview I did about my upcoming new record and the new moves I’m making. The Def Jam item is a 2 minute comment from one question I was asked during the interview. Why is everyone trying to start some mess by focusing on that one comment? I left Def Jam 10 years ago. Why is this considered news?” [sic] (SOHH)

Scarface’s Def Jam comments began circulating online this week.

“I needed a bigger part of [Def Jam] and they wanted to play like I wasn’t bringing business,” Scarface said when asked about his Def Jam exit. “Everything that’s hot right now is what I brought to Def Jam from Rick Ross to T.I. because you know, Def Jam wouldn’t touch T.I.” (WGCI)

Back in 2010, Scarface said he asked former Def Jam head L.A. Reid to be released from being Def Jam South President.

“I think when the powers, Lyor [Cohen], Kevin [Liles] — when everybody left Def Jam, when the wigs left, like, I was over there with LA Reid,” Face revealed in an interview with radio personality EI8HT. “And I didn’t know what kind of sh*t was getting ready to go on over there. So I wanted to save him the hassle of dealing with me because I know I’m not the easiest motherf*cker in the world to deal with. And I respect the move and the decisions that he made by releasing me because I asked him, man to man, to release me and he said, ‘Well, you know I would like to at least sit-down and talk to you but if you still want to leave, I understand.’ A couple of my friends got on that flight to see LA Reid, but I never got on it. I didn’t feel the need to.” (“Street Disciplez Radio”)

Looking forward, the rap legend is currently putting together a new LP.

Scarface is getting ready to drop his first album since 2008 and recently announced that the upcoming record will be titled ‘Rooted’ and drop sometime this summer. The rapper hasn’t put out an album since he dropped ‘Emeritus’ which he explained would be his last album when it was released. Scarface dropped the title and told fans when they could expect his upcoming project via Twitter before adding that he was grateful for their patience. “S/o to everybody that can see this…. The new album title is ‘Rooted’ releasing early this summer thanks for you patience.. Out….” (This Beat Goes)

  1. One of the main reasons I think this was more focused at Papoose more than anyone is because of the “You’re either corny or an opportunist/ I let you eat now go back to church and steal crackers from communinion” line. That’s clearly talking about Papoose touching the stage with him.

Also the “Hold up, wait a minute/ your career ain’t sh*t if it ain’t got some Kendrick in it….” line, Drake clearly has a strong career with or without Kendrick. If he was going at Drake specifically that’s a line he wouldn’t use. Papoose is of course getting more attention than he has in years over Kendrick’s name. I do think he poked at Drake and anybody else he mentioned in the “Control” verse when instead of saying he loved all them niggas like he did before, he started by saying,” I hate all of y’all” Since they all whined he gave them something small to whine about this time. The Nothing’s been the same line could have been a slight jab too. I just think the haymakers were for Papoose and the diss track makers.

    • exactly, and the kendrick in it line really confirmed it too, Drake don’t need nobody and Drake the one who said people need him first, papoose ain’t got shit

    • and schoolboy said kendricks cypher was done BEFORE he even knew what drake said plus he has more incentive to go at Pap. Now it looks like hiphop media (especially SOHH) hyped this shit to promote themselves and BET

    • Nigga shut up* kdot went plat & record sales don’t matter n this new climate* bout phuckn skills u turkey neck bastard* drake wuld get handled jus lik common did his sweet ass* & talkn bout cudi hmmmm*tha boy aint want no battles* he jus wanna sing*

  2. Wasn’t gon rap but the high five was in sync, riiiiiiiight. That’s like ya man ad libbing a freestyle

    • How you feel about Jay Rock? People try to say he the weakest but he got bars people sleep on. Ab Soul the best though (imo).

    • I think the Jay is the man, I always thought he was one of the best 2 between him and soul and I put Kendrick in the middle, To me though Jay Rock go hard as fuck

  3. finally, niggas jumped out the gate screamin it was drake. The nothing was the same line can’t be denied but I still believe it was mostly towards papoose and now anybody that say otherwise is kinda foolish

  4. But Kendrick is supposed to be our knight in shining armor that slays the evil mainstream Drake dragon.

  5. What u mean cant be touch u mean freestyle like battle rappers or making hits like drake kendrick cant make a song hot like drake can, kendrick only make u sound bad kendrick is a very talented artist but drake is a multitalented artist, how many underground or regular mainstream or nonmainstream artist that can flow better or bout the same as kendrick its alot of them lets see what ken next album sound like.

    • See I was tryn to teach a lesson how to trend set but here u go again on anothers nut again he killed it he dont need you to reply the same shit he said he killed it u echooo as nigga look dog obvious u ben statn ur mind for long time and still have no followers so who are you an ur shit private for what for yo left and right hand ha u funny no followers and ur shit private give me abreak Im not gone fuck with you no more u won I lost u happy no more jab I dont wanna be like rapgod lol

  6. Bublegum bobby and oreally are the same nigga wearing the same clothes but I was gone say jewfro ate bobby bubble gum, now yall some oral hoes verbally exposed mayb thats y oreilly keep it soooooo private

    • Sad to say, but new Kendrick is a bit overrated. Old Kendrick was unfuckwithable though.

  7. “I still don’t think he went at Drake because he did that before the little incident” If he did that verse before the incident, then why say that nothin’s been the same since they dropped Control? Dropping Control WAS the incident.

    • No, the incident was Drake’s responses on his album promotion interviews the week NWTS dropped. If you think about it after Control Kendrick has no reason to go at Drake – he’s the one who took the first shot. People thought the cypher was in response to Drake saying he wasn’t feeling the verse, it wouldn’t be remembered etc. They didn’t realize it was recorded beforehand.

  8. It’s about Papoose and Drake The first part of the verse was about Papoose and second part was about Drake. He started talking about Drake after he said nothing was the same which comes later,.He put two verses in one. Brilliant. We’ll see what sensitive Drake does after this. He did say on his crown interview he has “secret bars” for anyone who takes a shot at him.

  9. He think he went at various artists. drake and Papoose being the most obvious. My brother said he heard a shot at Joe Budden. I thought it was going to be a respo se to all of the responses.

He probably wised up and just took a few shots

  10. This a therapy site for racist and nigga s with too much time on they hand just say what the fuck u wanta say?
