Actor and R&B singer Tyrese Gibson shared on his Instagram that he was recently dropped from the record label he co-founded, Voltron Recordz, on Feb. 14.

A screenshot of a termination agreement was among one of the photos he shared with his 16.4 million followers. On the same day, his mother, Priscilla Murray Gibson, died of COVID-19 and pneumonia. He also secretly married Samantha Lee on Valentine’s Day in 2017. Lee later filed for divorce in 2021.

Wise Words

The Black Rose artist reposted the screenshot and shared on Feb. 15 that he was reportedly in conversation with the Mayor of Atlanta Kasim Reed. Gibson shared what Reed had to say to him, which was something  Fat Joe went viral for saying years prior.

“You remember what brother Fat Joe said, right? ‘Yesterday’s price is not today’s price…” Reed said.

“You don’t need to be signed, you’re a boss! Bosses, don’t get signed.,” Reed continued. “All true bosses form partnerships with bosses. They are going to hate that they let you go.”

Tyrese has openly discussed his mental health struggles over the years. He also recalled a time he was so depressed he couldn’t get out of bed.

In 2017, following several bizarre social media rants, the “How You Gonna Act Like That” singer blamed his actions and struggles on depression medication, Rexulti. Noted actress and activist Rosario Dawson chimed in and commented on his post, saying, “Sending you so much love. Thank you for sharing and being so vulnerable, raw, and real.”
