After reports claimed his request to join G.O.O.D. Music was rejected by Kanye West, SOHH hit up Twista to get the real story on why his access was denied.
Despite admitting to previously reaching out to West in hopes of joining the G.O.O.D. Music roster, Twista said the media took his words out of context.
“The funny thing is people are smart enough to tell, ‘D*mn, [the media] may have ran with this one,'” Twista said, saying his “rejection” from G.O.O.D. Music was misreported. “That’s exactly what happened. Somebody took a statement that I said, like a general type of statement, going through my conversation, took a piece of it and highlighted it. First off, if Kanye did reject me, I wouldn’t go around telling everybody that. I’m just not one of those corny a** n*ggas going around talking about people. I’m too grown for that sh*t. That’s one, and then two, it never was a rejection. I think I mentioned it to him in the studio and he was telling me exactly what he’s been working on at the time and since then, he had moved to Hawaii. He had moved to Hawaii when we had that conversation. So, that was just an old conversation we had once that I didn’t really want to press on.” (SOHH)
Twista also said he would never allow himself to publicly call out another Chi-town rapper.
“I was actually trying to find a deal that fit me financially and freedom-wise,” Twista added. “And so I think I did that. But I wouldn’t rule out working with [Kanye] in the future…And that’s another thing, I ain’t ever crashing on another Chicago rapper. [The media] can get that one out from somewhere else. I ain’t saying sh*t about no Chicago rapper.” (SOHH)
Last week, Twista revealed his ties with Yeezy were not as close as they used to be.
As for his current relationship with his “Slow Jamz” collaborator, the mile-a-minute rapper was candid. “We don’t really talk a lot, but it’s not because we got a type of beef or anything like that,” he admitted. “Even though we did what we did together, we kind of have our own lane and our own zone,” “I’m a big fan of everything he does and [I] do plan on getting in touch with him in the future.” (XXL Mag)
In October, Twista opened up about a past intention of wanting to join Yeezy’s G.O.O.D. Music team.
“I actually wanted to [sign] at one point, Twista recalls of Kanye’s 2008 Graduation era. “But I don’t know what time of vibe Kanye had with me at that time…I mentioned that I would be getting out of my [Atlantic Records] contract and wondered if he wanted to jump down. But I don’t know, I guess it wasn’t a good idea for him at the time.He should’ve done it. He would’ve had ‘Wetter’ [Laughs].” (VIBE)
