An attorney for Troy Ave has come forward to speak out on his client being arrested on an attempted murder charge this week following a fatal New York concert shooting.

According to Ave’s legal team, he is actually the victim in a now-infamous fatal New York concert shooting.

“In the hip hop world, he’s not known as one of these troublemakers. He doesn’t live a gangster rap lifestyle,” said attorney John Stella. “What really happened here is Mr. Collins here is the real victim,” said another Collins attorney, Scott Leemon. “The person who was killed at this event, he died a hero. He was his bodyguard. He wasn’t shot by Mr. Collins. He was a lifelong friend.” (NY Daily News)

Ave pleaded his innocence in the crime Monday (May 30).

Troy must deal with charges including weapons possession.

Sources say the 33-year old, whose real name is Roland Collins, is being held in police custody. He’s also charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, according to the criminal complaint. Police say surveillance video shows Collins firing shots in a green room during a T.I. concert at Irving Plaza Wednesday. (NY1)

Police had Troy handcuffed to a hospital bed last week.

Troy Ave’s court date on Centre St. was postponed Saturday as the rapper-turned-gunman remained in the hospital, nursing a self-inflicted gunshot wound suffered during a shooting at Irving Plaza. Troy Ave, whose real name is Roland Collins, 33, was undergoing surgery to have bone fragments removed from his leg. Collins remained in NYU Langone Medical Center Saturday, handcuffed to a bed and under a police guard. (New York Daily News)
