Detroit rapper Trick Trick recently talked about his relationship with Shady Records head Eminem and revealed a portion of his “Detroit Vs Everybody” verse was removed.

According to Trick Trick, politics may have played a key role in his verse off the 2014 summer anthem being toned down.

“I’m on the phone with Royce [Da 5’9] and Em all the time. ‘Detroit vs. Everybody’ was an idea we all had collectively, but Paul Rosenberg was the one that was like, ‘Let’s do it,'” he says. Though Trick was proud of his contribution to the record, he felt it needed more. “It was missing that grimy! I said some shit that they took off; but it’s cool, you gotta do things the political way sometimes,” he says. Trick went on to make a 16-minute remix that featured 16 different local emcees. “The first version was the ESPN version, but I made the titty bar/Detroit Hip-Hop Shop version,” he yells again. Last fall, “Detroit Vs Everybody” collaborator Dej Loaf revealed fellow local native Royce Da 5’9 reached out to her in 2013 about appearing on the track.

“He was like, ‘I got this record,’ and I wasn’t sure if they were gonna make it. He said it would be [a track] called Detroit vs. Everybody, but I didn’t know it was gonna be Eminem.” The song features Danny Brown, Big Sean, Royce da 5’9″ Trick Trick, and Dej. When we spoke, she hadn’t even heard the anthem yet. It’s still surreal to her. “What would you do,” she asks. “How would you feel?” (Metro Times)

The “Detroit vs. Everybody” record premiered online last November.

Detroit stand up. Fresh off his SHADY CXVPHER, Eminem reps the Motor City on his new anthem “Detroit Vs. Everybody.” Marshall calls on fellow D-town natives Royce Da 5’9″, Big Sean, Danny Brown, DeJ Loaf, and Trick Trick for the Statik Selektah-produced track off the upcoming ShadyXV compilation.
