[SOHH highlights a hot record every week and offers a behind-the-scenes look at the smash in Singled Out. After KXNG Crooked dissected his “Magic & Bird” Statik Selektah banger, New York’s own Torae breaks down his Saul Williams-assisted “Imperial Sound” single.]

[One of my favorite tracks is] “Imperial [Sound].” The very first song, “Imperial Sound.” I love the trumpet on it.

I love the spoken word piece by Saul Williams. When I heard the beat, I thought it was one of those beats that set off a project. It sounded like the first song as soon as I heard it.

I was looking for a first song and it all worked out. Shout-out to Praise who produced it and my guy Sean Taylor who played the trumpet on it and like I said, Saul is on it.

I like that record. It’s a great energy record. A lot of people are into it, a lot of people play it at the gym.

It’s that good life music.
