Not Just A Contender

Beyoncè now has the most Grammys in history with a total of 32 wins. However, not in the category, her husband thinks is best. In an interview with Tidal, Jay-Z said the winner for “Album Of The Year” should have been his wife.

After the 2023 Grammy ceremony,  Beyoncé made history with the most wins for any artist in all genres.  But her husband Jay-Z thinks she was snubbed for the “Album Of The Year” award after it went to Harry Styles.

In an interview with Tidal just days before the ceremony, Jay-Z spoke about the award show he previously boycotted in 1999 after DMX did not receive a nomination.  He hoped the Recording Academy would  “get it right” this time.

He added that Beyonce’s Renaissance album “inspired the world,” and is actively “inspiring creativity.”

Look what it’s done to the culture. Look how the energy of the world moved,” said Jay-Z. “They play her whole album in the club. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that.”

Top 5 Rap Icons Who Never Took Home A Grammy

The contentious relationship between hip-hop and the Grammy Awards has lasted over 30 years. With recent nominations for the upcoming award show, many wonder when the Recording Academy will get it right.

The Grammys or the Scammys? Hip-hop fans and artists are shocked by the disconnect between impactful culture and the award show every year.

Here Are The Top 5 Rap Icons Counted Out By The Grammy Awards

Nicki Minaj

At the 53rd Grammy Awards, Minaj received her first nomination for Best Rap Performance. She collaborated with Atlanta rapper Ludacris in “My Chick Bad.” The rap superstar was nominated for ten more awards throughout her career, still awaiting her well-deserved win.

Unfortunately, Nicki has been snubbed again in the upcoming award show. The leader of The Barbz spoke out on her hit single “Super Freaky Girl” and was nominated in the wrong category.

Snoop Dogg

The Death Row Records CEO became a music mogul with zero Grammy wins under his belt. Snoop Dogg received his first Grammy nod in 1994, with over fifteen more to add to the list. However, there could be a win for Snoop in the future.

Tupac Shakur & The Notorious B.I.G.

Tupac and Biggie are labeled as hip-hop icons, yet, it is quite puzzling that both artists have never won a Grammy. The two went head to head with their first nomination in 1996 for best rap solo performance, only to lose to Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise.” B.I.G. has over three nominations, with Pac leading at six.

Nas

Following years of nominations, Nasty Nas secured his first-ever solo Grammy in 2021. With over Twenty years since his first nod, the relevant rapper finally received his flowers taking home the award for Best Rap Album for his 13th studio album, King’s Disease

J. Cole

Cole was also well overdue for a win. With a salute from the hip-hop community for not submitting his music to the academy. The Dreamville leader has over sixteen nominations, winning his first award at the 62nd Grammy Awards for “Best Rap Song,” “A Lot”  in collaboration with 21-Savage.

Beyoncè, GloRilla, Latto + More Nominated For The 65th Annual Grammy Awards

The 65th Annual Grammy nominations were released earlier this month, and some polished artists, such as Beyoncè, made history this year. New artists like GloRilla are fresh in the game and have snagged their seats at the table.
