According to Short Dog, he did not realize he had the weapon until it was too late.

“I just rushed and packed the bag and I guess the wrong bag I packed. I had no idea,” Short said in an interview. “Who would take a gun into an airport? It was a really big deal going on, there was a lot of chitter-chatter and stuff and I kind of figured out, I gotta get to my lawyer or something and figure out what I should be doing. [TSA] kept calling people over and I’m like, ‘D*mn, did I pack the wrong bag? I don’t know.’ I definitely didn’t run. I walked very slowly. I was walking on eggshells. I walked very slowly to my car and got on my phone and said, ‘What should I do?'” (TMZ Live)

Too Short breaks his silence on the loaded gun right here…

The California rap veteran also revealed what he learned from the incident.

“Now what I should have did, the lieutenant said, ‘You should have just came over to me and said, ‘Hey I made a mistake.’ I would have gave you a ticket and put you on your plane.’ He said it happens all the time, named a few celebrities that did it and said people do it all the time and it’s a misdemeanor, you go to court and pay your fine. I didn’t know what to think. I figured let me just call somebody. … I’ve been trying to stay out of trouble.” (TMZ Live)

Details of what all went down this week surfaced Friday (October 3).

The rapper was at Burbank Airport Thursday when he put his bag on the conveyor belt, and as it rolled he realized there was a loaded gun inside.  We’re told his reaction was immediately — GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE.

Problem is … Short’s wallet and shoes were also on the conveyor, so he left in his socks and without cash.

We’re told Too Short got in his car, drove off and called his lawyer and asked what to do. We’re told the lawyer told him to go on his merry way and the lawyer would clean up the mess. (TMZ)

Short reportedly relied on his attorney to help him avoid serving jail time.

So according to our sources … Short’s lawyer, Keith Davidson, went to Burbank Airport and convinced authorities to merely ticket his client for misdemeanor firearms possession and not arrest him. Meanwhile … we’re told Too Short went to nearby Van Nuys Airport and took a private jet to SFO. (TMZ)

Last year, the California rapper came forward to speak on trying to resist an arrest.

“I just ran all the way out to Miami, man,” Short said in an interview when jokingly told he might be running in the next Olympics Games. “I had to get the hell up out of LA. I only got one thing to say, man, if I would have hit that corner, y’all would have seen a whole different Short you’ve never seen. If I wouldn’t have tripped, you would have never seen me. They’d have had the helicopters out on the morning news — it’s one thing y’all don’t realize though. I was across the street from my house. I was about to run home.” (Shade 45)
