[After celebrating Tony Touch’s “Toca Tuesdays” 7-year anniversary last month, organizer Danny Castro talks to SOHH about the weekly party’s run.]
We actually moved Toca Tuesdays from Santos. Before Santos Partyhouse, we were at Sutra. Sutra was the original home for our Toca Tuesdays. That’s where it originally started.
We were there for over five years until Sutra actually closed down. That’s why we were forced to move.
If they hadn’t closed, we probably would have still been there to this day.
Our party is more of a boutique party. It’s very intimate. We usually like to have it in a small lounge spot. At Santos, we were really ambitious and thought that it could work in a bigger room.
It still worked but it just wasn’t the same vibe that we had before. So we decided to move to The Delancey because it gave back that intimate vibe. That’s why we decided to move to The Delancey and move it back to the Lower East Side. Things have been working out pretty nicely.
Any party promoter would love their party to last as long as possible, we just plan on having a good party. I don’t think any of us expected it to last this long, for seven years straight and actually doing it consecutively every Tuesday night.
Therefore we’re very grateful and appreciative for our regulars that come every week and supported us throughout the years and always show us love. We’re very humbled and want to continue to give them good music and give them memorable events for them to experience.
