Chainz promised that he wouldn’t drop anymore mixtapes until his official solo debut hits the shelves.

This album has been in the works for a while. Basically because I’ve been putting out mixtapes that were in album format. But I always have songs that I felt should really be on an album. The songs I’ve been working on for this album I’ve been working on for years, not that it took me years to make them. The [newer] songs I’ve been doing I’ve been trying to [make] conceptual. Certain songs that I’ve made might not make the album because I want to stay within a certain concept or whatever. But the next thing that comes out from 2 Chainz in 2012 will be the album.(SOHH)

The Def Jam rapper explained that his underground releases should be considered more than mixtapes and believes his feature alongside the upcoming G.O.O.D. Music team will be a big hit.

I felt like it was mixtape had songs that were album material. “Riot” always had a feeling to me, it always had a feeling to me. It was one of the records I enjoyed performing, but Riot definitely did more than I could ever anticipate. Tomorrow is Good Friday and me and the crew gonna be dropping the first single off that compilation. It’s called mercy featuring Big Sean, Pusha T, myself and of course Kanye. I’m excited about it. It’s a good thing its jamming and it should drive the internet crazy tomorrow. That’s a good thing to add to the resume, definitely.(SOHH)

Chainz also discussed a few unreleased tracks he made with Drake and why he chooses to keep guest appearances for his upcoming album top secret.

Those [songs with Drake] are works in progress. Me and Drake we haven’t been able to sit in the studio together. So a lot of it are ideas just bouncing around. With me, man I still wanna have that element of surprise on my album. My mixtapes have great productions, great features as well, my last mixtape had Big Sean, Kreayshawn, Jadakiss, Raekwon. That was on a mixtape. So you know, every time I try to do something I try to have that growth and maturation. For the most part, people been reaching out to me.(SOHH)

Late last year, DJ Holiday spoke to SOHH and predicted 2 Chainz would be one of the rappers to watch in 2012.

I personally think 2 Chainz has that “it” factor. He has that swag and that appeal that people pretty much expect from an artist. I think everybody knows him from “Duffle Bag Boy” with Lil Wayne, but now he’s solo. I went to his studio a couple weeks ago and listened to a couple of his records and I fell in love with the music, man. I always call a spade a spade and pretty much, he’s gonna be the guy who gravitates to the next level. I knew Young Jeezy was gonna be a star. I knew Gucci Mane was gonna be a star. I think once 2 Chainz gets that push he needs he’ll be one and the people are gonna see it.(SOHH)
