Grammy-winning producer Timbaland recently dished on his plans to release some free music and dominate the underground circuit.
Timbo revealed he would release an untitled project and is not excluding who he clocks in studio time with.
“I’m working with everybody. There is going to be a big announcement coming soon. Can’t talk about it,” Tim revealed in an interview. “Okay, I’m gonna rule the mixtape era. I’m gonna rule it. I’mma put out a mixtape. Why not? Let’s do it. It’s gonna be ill, too.” (Vulture)
Tim also explained his decision to release the music without a price tag.
“Look, y’all done paid for my music all these years, why not give something back? It’s about being apart of the culture and showing people how to make it. If we gonna do trap music, this is how we gonna do it. I’m gonna control this thing. Y’all come to me, I got it. The dirtiness? Mmm, mmm. We gotta clean this up.” (Vulture)
Recently, “Empire” star Bryshere “Yazz” Gray boasted about working with Tim, who is the show’s music executive producer.
The showrunners have upped the music cred for the second season, bringing in Ne-Yo to work with Jussie Smollett (who plays middle son Jamal Lyon) and Timbaland (the show’s executive music producer) to write with Gray. “It’s amazing working with Timbaland; he’s a phenomenal producer,” Gray says. “He does what he does, he makes magic. He comes into the studio, that mad perfector that he is, and I’m just in the booth, writing lyrics for the cub Lyon. He gives me that special ingredient.” (WWD)
