[With her new “Up In Smoke” EP available right now, soulful singer Tiara Thomas talks to SOHH about how special this release is for her.]
This is like my first project that’s close to me since I came out with the Wale record, “Bad.”
I dropped an EP when I was signed to Interscope but it really wasn’t me as an artist. I just had to figure out my sound and who I wanted to be as an artist.
This is like my baby.
It was like a year and change [putting this together]. A couple of the songs are ones that I had when I was signed to the label and they weren’t particularly in love with that music.
There were some creative differences so I decided to go my own way with my own team.
So I took some of those songs from then, which were “On Me,” “Something Else,” and that might have been the only old ones. Then over a course of a couple months, I recorded the rest of my EP.
