Ex-Cops Involved In George Floyd Murder Case Federally Charged

After deliberations, a jury of four men and eight women found Lane, Kueng, and Thao guilty of violating Floyd’s civil rights. The jurors also found Thao and Kueng guilty of an additional charge for failing to intervene to stop Chauvin. In addition to giving the ex-cops guilty verdicts, the jury found that their crimes resulted in Floyd’s death.

Lane testified that he asked Chauvin twice to reposition Floyd while restraining him but was denied both times.

Judge Paul Magnuson allowed the three men to leave the courthouse on pre-established bail conditions ahead of their sentencing. A date for that hearing has yet to be set.

This verdict will serve as a new precedent for convicting bad cops, and specifically for cases when officers allow their colleagues to act irrationally.
