Rap rookie Nav has no problem speaking his mind. The hip-hop newcomer has come forward to blast away at XXL magazine on the verge of their annual Freshman list unveiling.
Nav went to his Instagram and Twitter pages this week to tell millions of followers about his issues with the hip-hop publication.
This is who decides who's on the @xxl Freshman List 😂😂😂 I refuse to wine and dine you and play you my new music before my fans. I will never show up for your list #NoCap 😈 pic.twitter.com/2viMlihIF0

To my fellow artists. We shouldn’t look to a magazine for validation or to tell us if we "hot or not", especially one that hasn't been credible for 10 years @xxl. Make music for yourself and your fans. I would never show up for the Freshman List cuz I don't need their approval 😈

In the past, social media has fired shots at XXL over the criteria used for picking its Freshmen.
Every single year there seems to be a handful of people upset with those chosen. XXL isn’t perfect; nobody is. On the contrary, you would expect such a highly regarded publication to be pretty accurate. Despite having past picks such as Kendrick Lamar,, that hasn’t always been the case. In 2016, comedy-rap artist Lil Dicky was chosen to the dismay of many people, considering much of his work is satire. The prior year many were mad that Kidd Kidd, who has been rapping since 2004, was chosen due to the longevity of his career. There are always valid claims that artists on a XXL Freshmen List didn’t belong there (think Trinidad James and Diggy Simmons) but one year, we’ll all be able to confidently say XXL got it right. Recently, hip-hop artists Action Bronson and Lil Twist reflected on their Freshman list inductions.
Back in January, “Everyday Struggle” host Akademiks shared a pitch of some top contenders for this year’s list.
