Grammy-nominated singer The-Dream has addressed speculation claiming his upcoming 1977 album cover is heavily influenced by Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch the Throne LP artwork.

Addressing the speculation on Twitter, Dream said his cover is actually inspired from something he saw over a decade ago.

“They say my album cover is a Rip from WTT , if so i think its a great Rip gotta keep it in the Family ROC-KILLA,” he tweeted August 3rd.

“THE 1977 album cover By Lorenzo Ghiberti!”

“#WTT Watch The Throne Aug. 8th 2 of the Greatest to ever do it! JAY-YE! ROC…”

“I here you are trying to DECODE THE COVER. I saw this Art for the first time in 1999 happy i could make use of its beauty.” (The-Dream’s Twitter)

The project’s cover art landed online a couple days ago.

The-Dream goes back in time with the bronze cover of his free Internet LP Terius Nash Est. 1977. The biblical artwork borrows from Lorenzo Ghiberti‘s Adam and Eve Panel depicting the stories of Adam and Eve, Jacob and Esau, and David and Goliath. The 10-track download, which will precede the singer-songwriter’s fourth album The Love, IV: Diary of a Madman, will be available by the end of the month featuring the single “Form of Flattery.” (Rap-Up)

Following its unveiling, speculation on whether or not Dream took the idea from Watch the Throne developed.

While we wait for The-Dream’s delayed The Love IV (Diary of a Mad Man) (now to drop sometime later this year), the singer/producer is dropping a 10-track LP called 1977. Not coincidentally at all, that happens to be the year of his birth, and Dream will be releasing it under his given name, Terius Nash. The classic art-inspired album cover, which appears to have a hidden clock face of some kind, reminds us of Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch The Throne cover in pretentiousness alone. 1977 drops August 31. Earlier this year, Dream talked about wanting to release his forthcoming The Love, IV, album with features from Kanye West and Jay-Z.

“This album is gonna have more features, which is unique for me, ’cause I usually don’t carry a lot of features,” Dream revealed in an interview. “I’m calling it out now. I’m cashing in my chips. I’m gonna try to get everybody, [Lil] Wayne, [Kanye], Jay, Drake, Mary [J. Blige], anybody that I’ve worked with or [loaned] a hand to, I’m trying to get on my album.” (MTV)
