With Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch and Sean Price set to work up a holiday rap storm in New York next week, SOHH hit up Duck Down Records co-founder Dru Ha to learn more about the label’s one-night concert special.
Presented as the official Duck Down Music & Javotti Media Holiday Show, Dru said Big Apple concertgoers will get an ample dose of homegrown star power all night long.
“A festive atmosphere,” Dru told SOHH when asked what fans can expect. “First off we’re giving away 50 limited edition Rocksmith / Sean Price T shirts at the door! With the exception of the great Pharoahe Monch representing Queens, the majority of the artists scheduled to perform: Talib Kweli, Buckshot, Flatbush Zombies, Sean Price, Smif n Wessun, Skyzoo, DyMeZ all represent Brooklyn. We thought it would be a great way to celebrate the Holidays in their home town.” (SOHH)
Dru also hinted at what Duck Down heavyweight Sean P might serve up at the holiday show.
“Aside from Sean Price performing his new “How Sean Price Stole Xmas” hit, [laughs], I think he’ll be focused on performing tracks from his Mic Tyson album. My guess is fans can expect a mix of hearing new material from all of these artists’ recent albums, and of course the classics that have helped define their legacies. … At Duck Down we always try to do something different, but I would love to establish our Holiday show as an annual event in Brooklyn, paying homage to our current roster, and showcasing emerging talent as well. Excited to have Flatbush Zombies and DyMeZ as a part of the show this year.” (SOHH)
Sean P got the jump on his Duck Down family with the recent release of his “How Sean P Stole Christmas” music video.
A play on Dr. Seuss’ classic book and cartoon, “How The Grinch Stole Christmas,” Sean Price lets all hell break loose on this hilarious new video. “F**k Christmas, this s**t,” Price starts off in this song. “Stick my d**k in the box, f**k this gift. Sean Price makes The Grinch seem like an angel in this quick clip sponsored by Red Bull. Between this video and DMX singing “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer,” tis the season for thugged out carols. If you haven’t went ahead and told your kids that there is no such thing as Santa Clause, it might be a good idea to tell them before they watch this video. Sean Price goes on to terrorize the Easter Bunny and Rudolph in this cartoon. This Kimson Albert-directed video probably will not get any play in any elementary schools, but it’s still pretty dope.
