[After recently gracing the stage with hip-hop moguls Slick Rick and Rakim, Javotti Media’s Niko Is talks to SOHH about being surrounded by greatness.]
It was life-changing [meeting them]. It was crazy. I got asked to do this jam with Soul Rebels, this incredible, incredible band from New Orleans and they just play incredible jams. They are a really big band with horns and it’s just next level.
I had the pleasure of getting invited to jam with them and I was like, “Absolutely!” I didn’t even check the rest of the e-mail when they had a flyer attached and it had Rakim, Slick Rick, and I was like, “Ah man!” It was better than I had ever hoped. I got to build with Rakim for some hours, we got to drink together and talk together.
It was just like, “Wow.” The God. He’s such a humble man. He has so much insight. He has so much knowledge to drop. It was super surreal.
Slick Rick? It was just crazy.
I had to rap after Rakim, after he got a standing ovation. No pressure!
