New York rapper Talib Kweli is taking legal action to save his image and – ultimately – career. The hip-hop veteran has reportedly sued a website over claims about raping a child.

According to a report from The Blast, Kweli has gone after a site for bogus accusations and claims centered on sexual assault.

According to a lawsuit obtained by The Blast, a site called Turtleboy Sports tweeted several times on April 18, 2017 making reference to a story on another site which claimed to have a first-person account of a woman who had claimed she was raped by Kweli. According to the lawsuit, Turtleboy Sports tweeted, “Talib Kweli once molested a 10 year old boy. Read it on the Internet on a site called Buffalo Bruises. Must be true.” Another tweet said, “why did you rape that 14 year old girl? How much did you pay her to keep quiet.” (The Blast)

Talib’s legal team suggested the controversy has hurt his music career.

Kweli’s attorneys claim that site — which is actually called Buffalo Bruisers (more on the name in a moment) — was created by Turtleboy Sports for the sole reason of posting the rape story. They point to the fact that the site only has one post in its history — the Kweli story. *It’s worth noting that the Buffalo Bruisers site in question is NOT called Buffalo Bruises, which is the name of a Buffalo sports blog that once got into a Twitter beef with Turtleboy Sports. Kweli sued for defamation and is seeking unspecified damages. (The Blast)

Last year, Talib Kweli spoke to SOHH about what fueled his grind and running his Javotti record company.

“I’m inspired not just by newer artists but by a love for music and a desire to feed my family. I’m excited about all of the Javotti releases. New York is a fickle crowd, righteously so. They’ve seen it all so you have to bring your A-game when being in New York. That it’s my home means nothing, I get more love as an import. But being from New York, I’m always up to the challenge. I didn’t start Javotti with limits in mind. We want it to be as big as it can possibly be. Our next project is K’Valentine.” (
