According to reports, the group has requested T.I. be placed in a rehabilitation facility as an alternative to jail sentencing.

A mysterious and geography-challenged admirer of Atlanta rapper T.I. has asked the court to place him in rehab instead of sending him back to federal prison, according to celebrity gossip site TMZ. The document is signed “Citizens of the State of Atlanta Georgia.” T.I., aka Clifford J. Harris Jr., does not know who filed the motion, according to TMZ. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)

Within the revealed documents, T.I.’s supporters also cite positive reasons for keeping him from behind bars.

“More importantly however, is the fact that taxpayer’s money ought not to be wasted to pay the expense to incarcerate a Defendant at the whelm of a Probation Officer and/or an Assistant U. S. Attorney, when, as in this case, other appropriate remedies are available as an alternative to incarceration; otherwise, this case would only be an example of the reason prisons are over-crowded and explains recidivism.” (Hip Hop Wired)

Following the rapper’s sentencing last week, T.I.’s attorney Dwight Thomas spoke out on the ruling.

“Of course we’re disappointed in the sentencing,” Thomas said outside the courtroom yesterday (October 15). “At the same time, it’s far less than what the government asked for. [As far as serving the full sentence,] that’ll be up to the Bureau of Prisons, that’s not their usual policies but their policies are what were governed in this case. Of course he’s disappointed. This is not what he expected, this is not what he wants in his life at this point. The judge is giving him two weeks to self surrender…” (Freddy O)

Tip later came forward and told the public not to be so critical of his mistakes.

“I have been in a position to see clearly how fast the public will throw you away. They would rather see you suffer then to see you shine. My actions have been unacceptable, inexcusable, but I don’t see them as unforgivable. But I have been approached by the public in such a way that my actions are unforgivable. One bad move, one bad decision has discredited all the good, which I don’t think is right. Especially when all the people that are judging and pointing the finger at me, are doing as bad, if not worse than me, without doing as much good as me. It’s a lot more in the world to frown up on than T.I. It’s a lot more to be upset at rather than me and my circumstances.” (Necole Bitchie)

T.I. has less than two weeks to turn himself and begin serving his sentence.
