As we move forward into a new decade, SOHH spoke with Lil Scrappy, Juvenile, DJ Webstar and Rakim to find out what was the biggest legal case over the past ten years.
For Scrap, T.I.‘s publicized weapons case around 2007 and 2008 stood out to him.
“I’m just gonna say the biggest legal case I have seen was T.I.,” Scrap said. “You feel me? ‘Cause that just, god d*mn, you don’t just get caught with that kind of stuff and just get blessed like that. He got a blessing. That was big, you know what I’m saying? [laughs] And then it just hit home because you be like d*mn, that could happen to me because n*ggas, be out there in them streets shorty, if you a real dude, you be out there in them streets — not only that you like ‘oh, I’m hard’ it’s like being put in situations where you gotta fend for yourself and you gotta stand up and be a man.” (SOHH)
Caught slightly off-guard, Juvie felt R. Kelly‘s sex scandal was a top legal case.
“I think the biggest case, hmmm, you gotta say OJ [Simpson], was OJ’s case in the last ten years,” Juvenile asked. “Oh nah, okay, then it would have to be R. Kelly. Yeah, yeah.” (SOHH)
Webstar agreed and pointed out why Kelly’s case qualified as the biggest legal suit he has seen in the past ten years.
“You would have to say the R. Kelly rape, uh, when Shyne shot up in the club with Diddy,” Web reflected. “Nah, I think it was the R. Kelly thing, him beating that charge. That girl didn’t look like she was no 15, I don’t care what you would say about it, it was him in that video. It was him in the video, but he beat it. But, it’s like a Catch-22, it was him in the video but that girl didn’t look like she was no 15, that girl looked like she was a grown women.” (SOHH)
While reflecting on Kells, Rakim said the billion dollar scandal involving Bernie Madoff was the biggest legal case from over ten years.
“I think the Bernie Madoff jump-off,” Rakim said. “I think it really opend people’s eyes and it showed it could pop off anywhere. So I think, you know, the R. Kelly thing was crazy, there were a lot of things that went on that we never found out, a lot of things that went on but I think the Bernie Madoffthing was right in your face, like, ‘Look, he took paper and he took a lot of paper,’ and you don’t really have to know too much more after that. He took a lot of paper. I think that’s it right there.” (SOHH)
