Hustle Gang leader T.I. recently talked about his hometown Atlanta Hawks going up for purchase and revealed why he would pass on the potential opportunity to be their new owner.
In Tip’s perspective, the NBA’s overwhelming control of teams makes the big buy less appealing.
“The thing about owning a NBA franchise is you’ll never get bigger than the NBA. So, whatever it is that you do it’ll be controlled by a bunch of other people who probably have more money than you and who been involved with the organization for longer than you. So, you won’t be able to do a lot of things that you want to do. So, I’m not interested.” (TMZ)

Back in November, T.I. showed support for his hometown Atlanta Hawks by performing at a game.
Buzz about Tip landing a performing spot at the Hawks game bubbled online days prior.
Rapper Tip “T.I.” Harris, an Atlanta native, will perform before the game, at halftime, and following the game. T.I.’s performances will reflect the marketing direction being taken by the team, especially following Levenson’s email written two years ago and made public last month in which he said “the black crowd scared away the whites” at games. Levenson has apologized for the email in which he also noted most of the team’s cheerleaders were black and hip-hop music was played. (Townhall)
Aside from the sports buzz, T.I. has a new restaurant opening in Atlanta
Historic Downtown Atlanta will be home to T.I.’s first restaurant venture. The renovation and refurbishing process of the landmark property is well underway, as plans for the new upscale Southern cuisine restaurant unfolds. An official announcement, sharing complete details, is planned for the coming weeks. Several local blogs, including What Now Atlanta, report the location as the shuttered Vibe Restaurant and Lounge at 30 Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
Rappers can’t afford nba teams..stop with these dumb ass articles
They might not be able to buy a whole team but they can purchase part of it (share) like how Jayz use to own 1% of Brooklyn net.
It’s a dumb ass article. Jay-Z has twice as much paper as T.I and he only owned 1%. T.I would be just a face/pawn for the franchise to appeal to the minority fan base and he knows it.
Nelly owned a good small % of the Charlotte Bobcats and he hardly was ever seen in Charlotte, yet still made a fortune. Nelly wasn’t there to be the face/pawn to appeal to minority fans, he was just a man with money who made a good investment. He sold his shares to Jordan which made Jordan a billionaire. Will Smith has a good small % invested in the 76ers many minority fans don’t even know that, how many times has he performed at a 76ers game? Real talk I don’t understand why black people just can’t be smart businessmen/women without other blacks thinking they are just tokens to appease a certain group.
Did he really make a fortune??? The Bobcats were losing money for years. I’m sure Jordan sneakers and apparel had more to do with him becoming a billionaire then the Bobcats franchise. Jordan was already the majority owner after Robert Johnson. I knew about Will. I know about the Dolphins having multiple celebrity owners. I don’t think they are tokens but I think they are there to be advisers and can be used in other areas. Unfortunately for the most part were not involved in the big decisions such as building the team etc. Only the majority owners make those decisions.
He owned a tenth of 1%.
I was bout to say that. Tip know his paper aint that long.
Yeah, maybe his paper aint that long but I would guess the Hawks would be a cheaper franchise no? I respect his logic though. A lot of people might jump at the chance just to say they are part owner of an NBA team but he is right, you really wouldn’t have any say or control with a minority stake and the upside to make a lot of money probably isn’t there.
I would probably be cheaper but you gotta figure the average NBA team is gonna go for at least 300 million. I think it’s more than that but i’m just throwing a figure out there……..
because he doesnt have money like that, SIMPLE
