Star singer SZA reached a new milestone with her latest album, SOS, reaching No.1 on the Billboard 200 charts after a five-year hiatus. Her debut is among one of the five highest album debuts of 2022.
TDE songstress SZA’s latest album SOS has reached early success as it is now No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts, surpassing Beyoncè’s Renaissance.
SZA’s second debut album and first since 2017’s Ctrl, was released on Dec.9 and has sold over 300,000 units with 7,500 pure sales.
Streams for SOS have led to its No.1 ranking on Billboard. SOS broke the all-time record for the U.S. Billboard 200 Chart for an R&B album with 404M on-demand streams.
The “I Hate U” singer shared on her Twitter her latest accolade on becoming the second female artist ever to have 20 songs simultaneously chart the Billboard Hot 100, with pop and country singer Taylor Swift, the only other female musician to have done it.
With her successful debut, SZA rounds out the top five albums debuts of the year with 318,000 equivalent album units. The top four with the top units moved also include Taylor Swift’s Midnights (1.578 million), Harry Styles’ Harry’s House (521,000), Drake and 21 Savage’s Her Loss (404,000) and Beyonce’s Renaissance (332,000), according to Billboard.
SZA was also a heavily-featured artist this year. SZA and West Coast rapper Doja Cat won a Grammy earlier this year for “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” for “Kiss Me More.” She is also nominated for “Best Melodic Rap Performance” for the 2023 Grammys for singing the hook to DJ Khaled’s “BEAUTIFUL,” along with Atlanta rapper Future.
Earlier this month, SZA performed on Saturday Night Live while actress Keke Palmer was the host.
