Top Dawg Entertainment’s SZA sees the finish line. The R&B singer has hinted at plans to hang up the microphone when she puts out a much-needed Ctrl album follow-up.
In a new interview, the Los Angeles musician revealed the next LP could ultimately be her swan song.
My world got so much smaller so fast. I have so much to write about. I feel like I’m in a cage. I’m making the best album of my life for this next album and I know that… because it’s going to be my last album.” Let’s not take that “last” part too seriously. She delivered it with a grin and has been known to flirt with the idea of early retirement. (Flaunt)
Last summer, SZA addressed putting up a since-deleted tweet about quitting music.
“Sometimes. Every other day. I don’t know. I have a short attention span, and I don’t like to do things when they aren’t fun or I can’t grow anymore. This is a space where I feel like I’m growing and having a good time. I’m learning a lot, but sometimes it gets to be a lot and I feel like I can’t grow in this space. Like, I have to do something different to grow.” (Glamour)
In the deleted October 6, 2016 Twitter post, SZA announced she hung the mic up for good.
In a now deleted tweeted, the singer announced, “I actually quit,” to a fan who asked about her album release. She also directed any more questions to TDE’s head, Punch, implying that he may have had something to do with the album’s delay. “@Iampunch can release my album if he ever feels like it.” (VIBE)
A few weeks ago, SZA’s Ctrl received platinum certification.
