This week in Single Ladies: SZA drops a new album after five years. Lizzo is named the top music artist on TikTok and Monaleo’s sings on “Miss U Already,” a ballad for a lost friend featuring, NoCap.

SZA Drops Highly Anticipated  Album,  “SOS”

SZA dropped her album SOS today,  after five years since her last project. The album features Travis Scott, who was on her last album Ctrl, along with Don Toliver, Phoebe Bridgers, and the late  Ol’ Dirty  Bastard of the Wu-Tang Clan.  

Her album cover showed her isolated  in open water, sitting on a diving board, which was inspired by the late Princess Diana. Additionally, her viral hit ‘I Hate You” is also featured on the new album.

Monaleo Shows Her Vulnerable Side With New Single, “Miss U Already”

Monaleo’s versatility features her vulnerability in new track, “Miss U Already.” The Houston rapper is now adding singer to her title and released a live performance version to the single. On the song, the “Beating Down Yo Block” artist sings about about losing a homie to gun violence. 

Nine local Houston singers also had an opportunity to be featured in the video and shared their vocals on the track.

Lizzo Named TikTok’s Top Artist Of 2022 + Honors Activists During People’s Choice Awards

Lizzo’s dance challenges have paid off. The singer was just named TikTok’s top artist of the year with the Billboard charting song, “About Damn Time,” getting the fourth spot on the app’s top trending songs.  Her video, which demonstrates the choreography for the song, came in at number seven for trending videos.

In addition, The “Truth Hurts” singer accepted the People’s Champion Award at the People’s Choice Awards on Tuesday. During her speech she highlighted 17 activists who she thought deserved the recognition.  

Among them was Tamika Palmer, the mother of Breonna Taylor who was shot in her home during a police raid in 2020.

Ava DuVernay Scores Her Own Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Flavor

Filmmaker Ava DuVernay became the first Black woman with a permanent Ben & Jerry’s ice cream Flavor.

“ Light! Caramel! Action!” will come in a dairy and non-dairy form. The new flavor is set to hit stores in January 2023.

Ryan Destiny Drops New Single, “How Many”

After a two-year hiatus, Ryan Destiny dropped a new single, “How Many.” The track tells the tale of a loyal person who starts to act a little funny. 

She also dropped a brief visual to the track on her Twitter featuring her dancing in a blue lit box.  Her last single “The Same” was released in 2020.

Kelela Debuts Video for Latest Single “On The Run”

D.C singer and songwriter Kelela dropped some visuals for her latest single “One The Run ” from her upcoming album. In the video, Kelela is joined by her producer Bambii driving through the desert. 

Kelela also just announced her album Raven is set to be released in February followed by a seven-city tour in March.
