Roc Nation princess Willow Smith has finally treated fans to her first full-fledged solo album, ARDIPITHECUS, Friday (December 11).
Smith’s unexpected album release comes packed with 15 tracks.
Willow Smith is the latest artist to go the surprise release route, as she unexpectedly put out her debut album, ARDIPITHECUS, on iTunes this morning. The album was released through Jay Z’s Roc Nation label, which Smith signed to back in 2010. The album includes 15 songs in total, with Willow penning 14 of them herself and producing 10 of the tracks on the album. (Complex)
Willow has since hopped onto her Instagram page to provide insight on the album title.
The Roc Nation singer also issued a statement on the project’s concept.
“Ardipithecus Ramidus is the scientific name of the first hominid bones found on earth. I wanted to name my musical compilation after it because, while I was making these songs I was in such a transitional state. Digging deep in the soil of my heart and finding bits and pieces of my ancient self that tell stories, which end up being the lyrics to the songs. Ardipithecus is my first album in my entire career and it makes me feel so blessed to be able to share my evolution with the LightEaters as I continue excavating my inner worlds…” (The FADER)
