Summer Walker just debuted a new look and it looks like she's going back to her roots, literally and figuratively. The sexy and eccentric singer has gone tribal with a surprising new hairdo inspired by the mother continent -- just in time for Black History Month.
Summer Walker dropped the jaw-dropping style on Instagram and it’s got fans buzzing. Her new look features her locs pulled back into a high ponytail sitting atop the middle of her head with the rest of her head shaved completely bald.
The “Still Over It” chart-topper appears to be paying homage to the Himba tribesmen with her new hairstyle. The Himba are located in southern Angola, with an estimated population of 50,000 people. In the Himba society, hair is power. Hairstyles play a significant role within the Himba community and reflect marital status, age, wealth, and rank within the group.
Summer’s definitely got the power and status, having just secured the first #1 spot on Billboard for and R&B Album since Beyonce did it in 2016. And she’s not letting a little social anxiety disorder — or an abusive ex — get in her way.
NBA Youngboy has also debuted a new look that pays homage to his African roots. The Baton Rouge rapper can be seen wearing tribal-inspired face makeup, which he says makes him feel “comfortable.”
