Former Death Row Records owner Marion “Suge” Knight can breathe a little easier this week as reports claim a judge delayed his publicized murder trial Friday (May 29).

According to reports, the judge’s decision is based on Knight hiring the same attorney who defended late pop icon Michael Jackson against child molestation charges.

The appearance of attorney Thomas Mesereau prompted the judge to reschedule a hearing on a motion by Knight to dismiss murder, attempted murder and hit-and-run charges. The motion was pushed back until July 7 to give Mesereau time to file his own legal documents and get more familiar with the case. (Associated Press)

Despite past issues, ex-Death Row Records artist Snoop Dogg stressed his friendship with Suge earlier this month.

“I do that’s why I feel sorry for him because I made up with him and we got on a great page before this nonsense started happening because I play the role of being the big man. I don’t ever kick a man when he’s down and I always look forward to building a relationship with someone I had a relationship with. And I feel like a lot of times I feel like it be a misunderstanding and it be people in the entourage as opposed to the two people really hating each other. I never hated him and he never really hated me. How could you hate me when I made you $100 million and how could I hate you when you help me build a team to beat my murder case. I didn’t forget about that. It’s a give and take thing. That’s why I’ve always have a open heart for him – this was my friend before he became my enemy.” (“The Whoolywood Shuffle”)

In late April, a judge did not approve Suge’s request to have bail reduced in his current hit and run fatal case.

His attorney asked the court to reduce Knight’s bail, now set at $10 million, but Los Angeles County Judge Ronald Coen denied the request. Knight faces one count of murder for the death of Terry Carter, one count of attempted murder in the case of Cle “Bone” Sloan, who was maimed in the incident, and one count of hit-and-run. Knight, 49, faces up to life in prison if convicted. (CNN)

In March, Suge passed out after being told he would be held on $25 million bail in a publicized hit-and-run case.

Former rap music mogul Marion “Suge” Knight collapsed in a courtroom Friday shortly after a judge ordered him held on $25 million bail in a murder case. Knight’s attorney Matthew Fletcher, said his client, who is diabetic and has a blood clot, told him that he hadn’t received any medication since Thursday. (USA Today)
