I mean, there’s always a lot of talent coming from Boston.

But I’ve been in New York for ten years now so I definitely pay attention. I think Michael Christmas is doing his thing right now. Through the years I’ve definitely been watching cats.

It’s weird seeing the different cycles. For a long time it was definitely a gangster rap city, with really aggressive music.

Now I see the young kids making different kinds of music, like Michael Christmas is more humorous, people are more light-hearted now. For a long time it was really an angry city rap-wise, no one wanted to see each other win and all this crazy sh*t.

Now it’s cool to see these young kids having a different approach to it. Obviously to me the Boston hip-hop scene will always be the one I grew up in, like Termanology, 7L & Esoteric, Akrobatik, dudes like that.

But all those guys have kind of fallen back now, they’re a lot older.

There’s a lot of dope talent coming out and I see that when I go back and from the opening acts of the shows we do. Like I said, I’ve been away from Boston for ten years so I’m definitely excited to hear more artists come out from there.

When I hear someone I like, I’m the first one to reach out. Like when I heard Michael Christmas, I immediately reached out. There’s a kid Millyz, he’s doing his thing too. I got to mention Ea$y Money, he just dropped a record with DJ Premier, I executive produced his album, he’s out of Boston too. -As told to SOHH writer Nikita Rathod
