3. Starbucks Doesn’t Like To Pay Taxes In Europe
It was revealed in 2012 that Starbucks had been somehow avoiding their corporation taxes in the United Kingdom. Despite earning £3 billion in 14 years, they had paid just £8.6 million in taxes. Several shady yet somehow legal methods were revealed, many of which led to the company stock dropping significantly. One of the methods included Starbucks charging high licensing fees to their European counterparts, which let them claim a “loss” of £33 million. Several other investigations revealed similar situations happening in other European nations, specifically Ireland and the Netherlands.
