Music streaming service Spotify is going to give rap mogul Jay Z‘s Tidal a run for its money by officially adding streaming video and podcasts to its services.

According to reports, Spotify announced its newest power move Wednesday (May 20).

The closely held streaming service, which has shaken up the recording industry over the past few years, said Wednesday that it would offer news and clips from outlets like ABC, BBC, ESPN, NBC and Comedy Central. In addition, Spotify said it also is introducing original content, such as “A Full English,” a show that will feature artists and other personalities who search for common ground over breakfast. During a Tidal B-Sides concert freestyle last weekend, Jay Z dropped a few lines aimed at Spotify.

“Oh n—s is skeptical of they own shit / You bought nine iPhones and Steve Jobs is rich / Phil Knight worth trillions you still bought those kicks / Spotify’s nine billion and they ain’t say sh*t / ‘Lucyyy you got some splainin’ to do’ / The only one they hatin’ on look the same as you / That’s cool / I know they tryin’ to bamboozle you / Spending billions on meryin’ to confusin you / I had to tell myself ‘Hov, get used to it’ / It’s politics as usual.” (The Hollywood Reporter)

Despite not being big on the music streaming game, Roc Nation’s Memphis Bleek recently said he had to support his longtime mentor’s new service.

“I really don’t know too much about the Internet world. I’m brand new to it myself. I don’t have Pandora and I don’t have Spotify, but you know that I’ve got Tidal because I’m riding for my crew. I think, because Jay Z’s behind it, the expectations are high. When you’re associated with greatness, people expect everything that you do to happen overnight. Sometimes greatness takes time, even when you’re Jay Z.” (Complex)

Young Hov resorted to his Twitter page last month to assure Tidal subscribers of the service’s promising future.
