Along with explaining why he’s universally loved by musicians, Snoop dished on his problem with female emcees not receiving enough props.

“I think [I’ve stayed relevant] because I treated everybody with love and eye-to-eye and that’s why they call me Uncle Snoop now instead of just some old rapper because I’ve always treated them with love and respect,” Snoop said in an interview. “No matter how big I was I always looked at them eye-to-eye. … [What disappoints me the most? It’s] that female emcees don’t get the respect that they deserve. It’s more about a body as opposed to sound and delivery. It’s more about what you look like than what you sound like. Then when you get to the award shows, you really don’t feel like nothing because you’ve really been taking the fall.”

Recent reports revealed Snoop’s follow-up to 2013’s Reincarnated album would be released through mega producer Pharrell Williams’ record company.

As Billboard reports in this week’s cover story, Snoop is the latest signing to I Am Other, which is headed up by Pharrell and co-manager Caron Veazey. I Am Other’s Instagram account teased the news earlier this week, revealing that Pharrell will be producing the entire set, which will feature guest appearances from music legends Stevie Wonder and Charlie Wilson. 1. Does this mean he will make an effort to alter the way he depicts and portrays women lyrically in his raps? Will we hear less about hos and bitches?

    • Your statement was fallacious because your assumption is that there are no woman who aren’t bitches and hoes. Women will be the first to tell you that there are some women who are hoes.

      • Not at all. I always hear that answer given as to why hos (a hoe is a garden tool) and bitches are so prevalent in rap music. Are there not respectable women in the world? Do these rappers not know any? If they do know some why don’t they speak about them more often? Why spend more time giving spotlight to the bitches and hos instead of the respectable women out there?

        • If words and the usage of words stayed the same over time then the word chauvinism would still mean someone who is overly patriotic. Therefore the word hoe can mean a garden tool and a woman who is a sexual deviant. Back to the matter at hand, to ask someone why does he write only about the moon and not the sun when the moon exists implies that by only writing about the moon this infers that the sun doesn’t exist. When I hear a rapper rap about a gold digging bitch or any other variation, it doesn’t make me think there aren’t good women out there. These guys contextualize their lyrics to where a four year old would know the woman who they are referring to aren’t Mother Teresa.

          • We’re talking about the spelling though. Hoe, is a garden tool and that hasnt changed. It’s still a garden tool.

Now I can tell you are arguing for argument’s sake. As an avid listener of rap music I can honestly say even someof the so called positive conscious rappersengage in perpetuatig the stigmatization and sexual objectification of women they’re lyrics. Nowhere did I say, imply, or infer that these women don’t exist, but in listening to many rap artists you would think respectable women are non existent. So I ask, why not discuss them? Why not talk about them? Why arent they talking about upstanding, moralistic, ethical, and principled women? Why does the focus stay on the negative women? Why choose to make these women that you so called hate the subject of your raps whenever you do discuss women? Again, you haven’t answered why rappers CHOOSE to highlight the negative when discussing women far more than the positive women in their lives.

          • So a word spelled a certain way can’t have multiple meanings? Here are examples of contranyms or words that are spelled the same way with multiple meanings; Never desert your friends in the desert. Close the window before the bee gets too close. Does the deer see the does? I sent my resume’ to find a job to resume working. The list goes on and on of words that are spelled one way and have several meanings. You will be hard pressed to prove that a slang word such as hoe is spelled as ho. I doubt any dictionary will have the correct spelling for hoe/ho, meaning someone can spell it as dhoe and say the letter “d” is silent.
Back to the crux of the matter, so your argument is that even though you and other people know there are respectable women in the world that rappers should rap about them more so we can confirm what we already know to be true. Do you need to be bitten by a shark to know it’s teeth are sharp? So you have to be spoon fed something you already know. T.I. said it best in one of his songs, ” I’m sorry but bitches and hoes (hos) do exist I’m just being honest. I guess you’re one of those people that think celebrities are role models and should help set an example for your kids.

          • Can’t argue with ignorance, but your point was well proven I tried to help out earlier then I realized you didn’t need any. Respect bruh

          • The only ignorance is from the likes of you and other males on this thread who have yet to abandon their support for lyrics imbued with chauvinism, misogyny, and the sexual objectification of women. Men will often instinctively rush to defend terminology that perpetuates the stigmatization of women in Hip Hop as if the preservation of female degradation is essential to the culture.

          • Hmm you’re shifting your arguments, first you went from saying hoe is a garden tool and the spelling of the word is assigned for that only to saying the examples I gave you of words with multiple meanings have been around for centuries and thus nullifies my argument. I pointed out these examples to highlight your dubious attempt to say hoe is a garden tool as if words are restricted to a single meaning. The words I gave are words that are in a dictionary because most slang words are not defined in dictionaries. Slang words can be spelled in any way like I stated in my previous comment. Even the word slang is a slang word for selling drugs when people really mean sling. So are they wrong for spelling it “slang” when it should be spelled “sling”. The most apt example would be the word “nigger” which is in the dictionary. Most people who use that term as a term of endearment not only pronounce it with a hard “a” at the end but spell it that way as well (nigga). I’m sure you know that this word has been around for centuries as well and thus negates your fallacious argument.
Back to the topic at hand, your argument works against you because it’s a fallacy. Why talk about subject A when we already know about subject A. So talk about subject B because we don’t know about subject B, wait a minute we actually do know about subject B. Your soliloquy at the end of your comments highlights what you really want. You want them to only talk about respectable women because this in your mind will stop women from being promiscuous and having children out of wedlock. I guess if they stop talking about murder, the murder rates will drastically fall as well. Stop looking to these entertainers as a moral compass for society as a whole.

          • Not shifting arguments at all. Hoe IS a garden tool and is recognized as such as the official word/definition in the English language. Hoe to describe promiscuous women is not recognized as an official word that’s recognized in the English language therefore ur wrong. Deer, resume, desert all have been established as such. Hoe to describe promiscuous women is a slang term and therefore tech ically that spelling to apply to women is erroneous. Your argument regarding sling and slang are completely different. In that case the “slang” term was inspired by an actually word and therefore the meaning was applied differently but the spelling remained the same because you are still symbolically slinging an item or slang drugs just as you would sling a rock. Ho comes from the word whore. It had no prior connection to hoe until people mistakenly spelled it. Done.

I’m trying to operate on an intelligent level with you, but you are either slow at comrpehension or misunderstanding me. Or u realized that your former reply helped prove my point. If your logic is we dont need to talk about respectable women because we know they exist and dont need to be spoonfed te same applies for calling women bitches and hos. We dont need to discuss that either because we also know that exists. Your argument worked against you and you have nothing left.

You then proceed to illogically infer that I believe a reduction of anti-women lyrics wil result in progressive behavioral changes for women. How you reached and got that I dont know stretch armstrong, but it was way off.

What Im looking for entertainers to do is spread WHOLE truths. If there are scandalous, disloyal, promiscuous women and you talk about them inyour raps, why not talk about the moral, principles, ethical women who carry themselves with integrity and dignity? Where is the woman’s voice who prides herself on self respect? You still havent answered why male rappers cannot or should not uplift righteous women instead of perpetually giving a voice and spotlight to women they claim to resent and abhor. Answer the question homie lol

          • I hate to burst your bubble but you’re not operating on an intelligent level but rather an amateurish one. Your argument makes no sense and when confronted with apt examples you either shift your position or rationalize in a nonsensical way to suit your argument. Now your rationale is the slang word has to have a direct connection to the original definition which is laughable. What about the slang word “jack” (to steal or rob)? Where is the connection that slang word has with the definition of Jack? I’m looking up the definition of Slang and nowhere do I see that the slang word has to be connected to the word its derived from. Lets look at another word I’m sure you’re familiar with, Faggot. Wikipedia has the original meaning of the word Faggot as a branch or bundle of wood that is now and I quote form Wikipedia a slang word to describe a homosexual man. Please explain the connection with branches and homosexuality. Lets look at these facts; a slang word can be derived from an existing word or can be completely made up therefore making your argument about hoe having a definition a moot point. Nigger is defined as a pejorative used to disparage blacks, blacks in turn has made this a slang term that is antithetical to the original definition. There are countless other examples of words that have their own definition that people have used to mean something totally different. On this you’re just wrong and no matter how much you try to regurgitate the same thing over and over, you’ll still be wrong. You need to take a class in critical thinking/critical reading because even your nonsensical rationales are being debunked. First you said hoe is a garden tool thus the word can’t have another meaning, that was debunked with examples of words with multiple meanings that are different. Then you say the slang word has to have a sort of connection from the word its derived from and that was debunked with further examples ala Faggot. What are you going to come up with next? Sometimes its best to know when to throw in the towel. You’re not standing on solid logical ground and your rationalizations are becoming more and more pathetic.

          • You are missing my points entirely so I will keep this brief.

Funny you speak of critical reading yet you have consistently drawn up your own unfounded erroneous conclusions and inferences from my statements oug my actual worss are quite clear.

I challenge you to go back and find EXACTLY where I said the slang word has to have a connection with the original word. I never did.

I challenge you to quote where I said the word “hoe” cant have another meaning. I never did. My point has consistently been that the only officially recognized in the English language definition for the word spelled H-o-e is a garden tool. So to say hoe meaning promiscuous womens technically correct is wrong lol

You gave up debating the actual matter at hand because you realize you lost right? That’s commendable of you though you avoided conceding defeat. Take care!

          • I didn’t actually give up debating the topic at hand because I already proved that it was fallacious. You have said nothing of substantive value to refute it therefore leaving me to believe the matter was settled. Back to your claim of not saying a slang word has to have a connection to the word its derive from, now you’re playing the semantics game-very interesting. Here’s a direct quote, “In that case the “slang” term was inspired by an actually word and therefore the meaning was applied differently but the spelling remained the same because you are still symbolically slinging an item or slang drugs just as you would sling a rock.” Call me crazy but this looks as if you’re trying to say a criteria for a slang word having a certain spelling must be rooted from the original word in which the meanings are the same. Let me try to paraphrase what you were trying to convey, the word slang is okay because it’s similar to the word sling in definition and spelling. Wouldn’t this mean you are trying to say hoe is incorrect as describing a promiscuous woman because it has no connection to a garden tool? On one hand you explain why slang is okay and now you’re claiming you never explicitly said what I attributed to you. This is what you call the semantics game. It’s okay, I see you are back pedaling and realized that your argument holds no water.

          • I will call you crazy because I specifically stated “IN THAT CASE”!!! Lol How you got that I was speaking of criteria for all slang words in general when I said IN THAT CASE is beyond me. So yes, the name crazy does fit lol

Again, learn to read or comprehend. I never sad it was okay. I said your example of sling flawed because the connection between the words is DIFFERENT and I stated why and how it’s different from hoe.

Hoe is spelled incorrectly. As a slang term, the correct spelling is ho.

            Bye.

          • You never said it was okay? You gave a full explanation to how the word slang is connected to sling and how people use them interchangeably and now you’re saying you never said it was okay lol. Am I in a dream or what? Are you slow or what. When people say the word slang they mean sling. You can’t slang drugs, you sling drugs. Slang has been accepted as a slang term to mean the same as sling. Some simple research would show that slanging or slang comes from the word slinging. Now you think because you said Hoe is spelled incorrectly that it makes it true. You’re like a kindergartener that says my Dad is Jesus and says Bye like that makes a difference. You’re seriously lacking in the areas of logic and reasoning. To say a slang word is misspelled is foolish when by essence a slang term has no definitive rules on how it can be spelled. I know it hurts to be wrong and you wish you can squirm your way out but you can’t, no amount of saying Bye will help you win this argument.

          • Haha I didn’t see your post. This guy is one of those holier than thou types who thinks the world will be better with more religious movies and music.

          • Words put together are spells if your saying fuck a bitch over and over that attitude prevails in the culture. If you rap about violence and chant murder and the culture reflects that we can’t pretend this “entertainment” isn’t destructive to our communities.

          • I can poke holes all through this argument! Easy!

As for your word choice argument you are clearly referencing words that do exist and have existed for hundreds of years, maybe thousands, in dictionaries everywhere. Resume, deer, desert have been long established and acknowledged as terms accepted in the English language as official words. To take an existing word “hoe” and erroneously apply it to women who are promiscuous is an example of incorrect utilization of a word catching on and becoming normal though technically incorrect.

Back to the matter. You just proved my point. If you already know promiscuous women exist in society do you need to be spoonfed what you already know? Do you need to be bit by a shark to know its teeth are sharp? Exactly. So do you have to rap about hos and bitches when you already know they exist? To you and Clifford I would counter, respectable women exist as well. Im just being honest.

Unlike you I’m not going to infer or presume what type of person you are. I will stick to the discussion and all I can say is I’m one of those brothers who actually likes women and sees no benefit in the preservation of the denigratory depiction of women in Hip Hop.

          • If that’s the case, get at the beloved Santa Claus every year he comes back chanting ho ho ho. That “spelling” that you’re trying to force everyone to believe is incorrect. It is spelled hoe

      • You were also fallacious here because you erroneously inferred that my position was there are no hos and bitches when if you read above I only asked if he will make an effort to alter how women are portrayed in his music and will we hear LESS about hos and bitches. Not that they don’t exist at all. You got on your stretch armstrong and started reaching.

    • He should have made more songs like “Beautiful” to balance out all the “Bitches aint shit..” songs.

      • Exactly. Tupac made those misogynistic records but he uplifted women too with tracks like “Dear Mama”, “Keep Ya Head Up”, “Brenda’s Got A Baby” and “Part Time Mutha”

  2. Females that were seen as real lyricist that wrote they own rhymes always got props. Lauryn, Rage, Lyte, Rah Digga, Heather B, Remy etc.

    • And for those who claim it’s racist Snow gets respect for the same reason Iggy does not.
