Snoop released footage of himself and hitmaker Swizz Beatz in the lab working on new music.

The Doggfather was posted up in the studio this week laying down tracks with super producer Swizz Beatz for his new album Doggystyle 2: The Doggumentary, the follow-up to last year’s Malice N Wonderland and sequel to his groundbreaking 1993 debut Doggystyle. “[Swizz] just laced my boots up for my new record,” Snoop said in a videoposted online, noting that they laid a staggering 18 tracks in the studio. “Motherfu**er gave me some gangsta sh*t, some Crips sh*t, some R&B sh*t, some hip-hop sh*t, some hard sh*t, mean sh*t…The album is Doggystyle 2: The Doggumentary…Be on the lookout for it.” (Rap-Up)

The rapper’s 90’s debut helped make him a household name.

Introduced to the world through Dr. Dre‘s The Chronic, Snoop quickly became the most famous star in rap, partially because of his drawled, laconic rhyming and partially because the violence that his lyrics implied seemed real, especially after he was arrested on charges of being a murder accomplice. The arrest certainly strengthened his myth, and it helped his debut album, 1993’s Doggystyle, become the first debut album to enter the charts at number one. (All Music)

The sequel would be a follow-up to 2009’s Malice N Wonderland.

West Coast rap veteran Snoop Dogg’s Malice N Wonderland hit the charts this week securing a spot at No. 23. With a week under his belt, Snoop Dizzle’s new album has shelled out 59,300 copies. (SOHH Sales Wrap)

Aside from his album, Snoop is currently making a bid to become a judge on the popular television show “American Idol”.

Rapper Snoop Dogg said he could lend “American Idol” some “pizazz” if he were chosen as a judge on the popular TV singing competition, WENN news reported Wednesday. “I like that show. I think it’s missing some pizazz and I can give it what it’s missing — if they get their bread together, cut me in and cut me out. I got to get paid,” the hip hop star said. (My Fox Detroit)
