Speaking on the inspiration for his new direction, Shyne vented his current frustrations.

“I am not rapping about Kadish or Shabbat shalom – that’s not the music I make. It’s really just a change in direction – the anger is still there, you dig? The outrage is sill there at the profanity and obscenity of poverty. I am still angry that people are suffering in Palestine, the people who aren’t terrorists. I am angry (Israeli soldier) Gilad Shalit is captive right now the way I was in captivity – but it’s just a different way to channel that anger.” (CNN)

Earlier this month, Shyne revealed he lives in Israel and is living as an Orthodox Jew.

“All these rules, rules, rules,” the rapper said about the strict religious requirements. “But you know what you have if you don’t have rules? You end up with a bunch of pills in your stomach.” Even though Shyne sports a Hasidic-style hat and a black jacket that hangs to his knees, the Brooklyn-raised rapper said he hasn’t lost his street cred. “There’s nothing in the Chumash [a Jewish book] that says I can’t drive a Lamborghini,” said Shyne, who was released from prison last year after serving nine years. Over the summer, Shyne talked about wanting to be a leader for the people of Belize, his country of origin.

“The Africans over [in the United States,] when you look at ObamaJesse Jackson, Al SharptonBerry Gordy, L.A. Reid, all these motherf*ckers that were able to accomplish so much — all these Africans that were considered one fifth of a man and all this hot sh*t, they were always able to take the nothing and the nightmare they had and transform it man,” Shyne said in an interview. “I don’t know, it’s something about that continent, in North America that allows motherf*ckers to go places that seem unattainable. But I bring that to my country. I feel I’m powerful enough and I’ve been conditions and trained enough to bring that to Belize. So hopefully I can inspire motherf*ckers to be in that vein of determination and drive and dreaming. That’s what America did for me and that’s what Americans do. Ya dig?” (XXL Video)

Over the week, Shyne penned a blog entry speaking on the power of music.

“I love music!!! Music is the thread that binds the universe. Earth, wind, fire and water all sing the melody of the planet. I remember going to court shackled from hand to foot, my blood unable to circulate through my veins, about to face a judge whose only inclination is to pervert justice and lock me away for 25 years! But none of that mattered once DJ Mister Cee started blasting that classic Eric B. & Rakim mixed into B.I.G.‘s “Get Money (Remix).” In that moment I escaped it all. No judge! No shackles! No pain! No prison! The power of music. Music has a transformative power that is simply supernatural. The bass and the drum beat in perfect synchronicity with the heart. Robert Nester Marley‘s voice sounds like the chief angel Michael is telling you, “don’t worry about a thing, the sun is shining.” Even on Friday night in a maximum-security prison, I’m free singing “Kabbalah Shabbat.” I forget all the reasons to cry and despise, and my soul remembers when it was in unison with the source of all creation, not trapped in miserable body!” (XXL Mag)
